This vibrant Mexican shrub, known for its strongly aromatic foliage, is a standout addition to any garden. In late fall, it bursts into a profusion of brilliant golden-yellow flowers, brightening the landscape when most plants are winding down for the season.
While it may die back slightly in winter, it reliably returns with vigor in spring. Perfect for sunny, well-drained locations, this versatile shrub makes an excellent border plant and adds stunning color and texture to the late fall garden.
Tagetes lemmonii has a fascinating historical connection: it was first documented by botanists John and Sara Lemmon in the late 19th century while exploring the rugged terrain of the southwestern United States and Mexico.
The plant was named in their honor, commemorating their significant contributions to botany and the discovery of numerous species in the region. Its enduring beauty and resilience make it a tribute to the spirit of exploration.
