Turf Starter fertilizer combines high quality compost with organic phosphorus from composted turkey litter to provide the unique conditions that grass needs in order to establish. The composting process fully stabilizes the fertilizer, making it safe so it will not burn the grass seed. This allows the nutrients to be applied directly where the seedling needs it.

Not just for lawns - this 4-6-4 fertilizer can also be used in garden beds for vegetables, flowers, fruiting and root crops as an all-purpose fertilizer. It is rich in micronutrients for hearty vegetables and larger fruit and blooms.

Coverage & Application Rates:

Apply anytime new grass seed is being established. Grass establishes best during the cool, wet weather in spring and fall. For lawn care, recommended application timing for this fertilizer is late summer (August-September).

Overseeding existing lawns: Mix 6 pounds of Turf Starter fertilizer with enough grass seed to cover 1,000 square feet. Apply 10 pounds per 1,000 square feet if grass clippings are removed or if the turf is heavily used or intensively managed.

New lawn from seed: Mix 25 pounds of Turf Starter fertilizer with enough grass seed to cover 1,000 sq. ft. and apply with a broadcast or drop spreader. Provides 1 lb of nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. Dig fertilizer and seed mixture into top 2 inches of soil.

New lawn from sod: Apply 25 pounds of Turf Starter fertilizer per 1,000 sq. ft. prior to laying sod.

Apply water thoroughly after applying seed or laying sod and maintain adequate soil moisture for 2 weeks following seeding or sodding.

As an all-purpose organic fertilizer for vegetables, fruit and flower beds: Apply 1 cup of 4-6-4 fertilizer for every 10 square feet of bed space. Dig fertilizer into top 4 inches of soil. For transplants and established plants, apply 1/4 cup of fertilizer into the hole prior to planting transplants or around the base of established plants.
