Mimosa Tree Seeds

(Albizia julibrissin)

Albizia julibrissin, commonly known as the Persian silk tree or Mimosa tree, is a fast-growing, deciduous tree native to southwestern and eastern Asia. It is popular for its feathery, fern-like foliage and stunning, silky pink flowers.

Botanical Overview:

  • Family: Fabaceae (legume family)
  • Height: Typically grows 20-40 feet (6-12 meters) tall.
  • Crown Shape: Broad, umbrella-like canopy with a flattened crown, providing light shade.
  • Leaves: Bipinnately compound, fern-like leaves, about 10-20 inches long. They are sensitive, folding during the night or when touched.
  • Flowers: Showy, pink, or white fluffy flower clusters, blooming from late spring to mid-summer. The flowers are highly fragrant and attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
  • Fruit: Flat, brown seed pods, about 5-7 inches long, containing multiple seeds. These pods persist through winter.

Growth Conditions:

  • Soil: Tolerates a wide range of soil types, including poor, sandy, or clay soils. Prefers well-drained soils.
  • Light: Thrives in full sun but can tolerate light shade.
  • Watering: Drought-tolerant once established, though it benefits from occasional watering during dry periods.
  • Hardiness Zones: USDA zones 6-9, but it can be invasive in some regions due to its rapid spread by seed.

Uses:

  • Ornamental: Widely planted as an ornamental tree in gardens and parks for its beauty and light shade.
  • Medicinal: In traditional Chinese medicine, the bark and flowers are used to treat conditions such as anxiety and depression.

Zones: 6 to 9

Stratification Requirement: Scarify the seed and sow.

Planting Instructions:

Planting Mimosa tree seeds involves a few key steps to ensure successful germination and growth. Here's a simple guide:

Seed Preparation

  • Scarification: Silk tree seeds have a tough outer shell, so you need to help them absorb water. Gently rub the seeds with sandpaper or nick them with a knife.
  • Soaking: After scarifying, soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours. This softens the seed coat and promotes germination.

Soil and Location

  • Choose well-draining soil with good fertility. Mimosa trees can adapt to various soil types but prefers sandy or loamy soils.
  • Select a sunny location, as the tree thrives in full sunlight.

Planting the Seeds

  • Sow the seeds about half an inch deep in the soil.
  • Cover lightly with soil and press it down gently to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.

Watering

  • Water the soil thoroughly after planting, but avoid overwatering.
  • Keep the soil moist but not soggy during the germination period.

Temperature and Care

  • Mimosa tree seeds germinate best in warm temperatures. Keep them in a location that stays warm, whether outdoors or in a greenhouse.
  • Once the seedlings emerge, ensure they get plenty of sunlight and continue to water them regularly, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Transplanting

  • Once the seedlings are a few inches tall and have developed a strong root system, they can be transplanted to their permanent location.

The silk tree is a hardy, fast-growing plant that can thrive in various conditions, but the initial care during the germination phase is crucial for success.

The Perfect Liquid Gel-Cap Multivitamin
My doctor asked me to take a multivitamin in liquid form, as the vitamins are absorbed so much better than with a pressed-powder tablet. These are not easy to find locally! I have been using these vitamins for quite a while and order more when I am getting close to running out. I was pleased to find them on Amazon at a good price. I had bought others online, but the price was considerably more for a comparable product. There is no aftertaste, and they are easy for me to swallow. They are large, so they may not be for everyone, but they solved a problem for me.

Size and Belching
The softgels are too large and the contents causes belching due to the fish oil included. The fish oil is one of the worst smelling I've ever experienced. Perhaps this would be a better product if they eliminate the fish oil. Women's softgels should be much smaller. If I could send it back I would do so. Since I can't, I threw it away and chalked it up to poor judgement on my part. Definitely a waste of money.

Huge bottle that lasta over half the year
I have been using this product for a while now because I routinely have low iron counts. Originally my doctor had me on an iron supplement but told me in the last year I could switch to a multivitamin with iron instead. I found that this is not the easiest thing to find, especially if you only want to have to take one vitamin a day. I like that the bottle has 200 soft gels which lasts over half a year before you have to worry about ordering more. And the last couple times I have had my iron levels checked they have been back in the normal range.

Good
I love these! They have a little smell to them but my stomach favors these types of vitamins rather than the chalky ones.
