The Hazelnut Tree brings charm, abundance, and year-round beauty to any garden, offering lush green foliage, graceful catkin blooms in late winter, and clusters of delicious hazelnuts by fall. Typically growing 10–20 feet tall with a similar spread, this versatile tree can be shaped as a multi-stem shrub or trained into a small, sculpted tree, adding structure and elegance to your landscape. Its catkins appear before the leaves, creating a soft golden display that signals the earliest hints of spring, while the developing nuts form in pretty husks ornament the trees during growing season. Hazelnuts for are easy to grow, begin producing quickly, and feel rewarding when harvesting fresh nuts right from your yard. Their compact size makes them perfect for homesteads big or small, while supporting pollinators and wildlife. The appeal of growing your own hazelnuts is irresistible—nothing beats cracking into fresh, homegrown nuts that are far sweeter, richer, and more aromatic than store-bought varieties, all from a beautiful tree that enhances your landscape every single year.

Planting Instructions:

Soil Preparation:

Choose a clear, sunny location that is not in the shade of other trees and receives at least 6 hours of sunlight each day. Trees establish roots better in sandy, well-drained soils rather than heavy, poorly drained soil. Remove weeds, large rocks, and litter from the planting area. Leave small weeds and dead grass, they will enrich the soil when turned under. Spade or till the soil 6-8 inches deep. Loosening the soil will help the plant establish strong roots. If the soil is heavy or clay-like, mix in some sand or compost to improve drainage. Optionally, either form rows of soil beds or hills 4-6 inches high and at least 20 feet apart. This formation of ridges will help with drainage, ensure good airflow, and make harvesting or maintenance easier.

Planting:

Starting Indoors: Seeds require a warm, moist stratification followed by cold, moist stratification to break dormancy. To warm-stratify seeds, lightly moisten a mix of peat or sand and place the seeds inside a sealed plastic bag with the medium. Keep the seeds in a warm spot (around 70F-86F / 20C-30C) for 30 days. Check periodically to ensure the medium stays damp but not soggy. After the warm period, move the mixture to a refrigerator for the cold stratification, keeping the seeds at 35F-40F for 60-90 days. After the stratification period, sow seeds in small pots with moist potting soil and in a warm, sunny location that is at least 65F, keeping the soil moist, or directly sow outdoors in prepared soil.

Once the seedlings have developed a few sets of leaves and are at least 6 inches in height, harden off seedlings then transplant outdoors in the spring, in a sunny location when temperatures are consistently above 60F. To transplant seedlings, prepare a transplant hole outdoors in a sunny, permanent location. Remove the plants carefully from the pots or flats and set them in the transplant holes, burying some of the stem in the ground. Pack the soil loosely around the plant and leave a slightly sunken area around each plant to hold water. Water the plants after transplanting.

Directly Sowing: The two-step stratification process (warm followed by cold) can be attempted by sowing the seeds in late summer for natural stratification but this may result in a lower success rate than indoor stratification prior to sowing.

Planting Depth: 1 inch
Within-Row Spacing: 15-20 feet
Between-Row Spacing: 20 feet

Care During the Season:

Hazelnut trees thrive with steady, simple care throughout the growing season: keep the soil consistently moist during spring and early summer, especially for young trees, while ensuring good drainage to prevent waterlogging. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep it a few inches away from the trunk. Provide full sun for the best nut production and prune lightly in late winter to shape the tree and remove dead or crossing branches. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer if growth seems weak, and monitor for common pests like aphids or filbert worms, treating early if needed.

Harvesting:

Harvest hazelnuts in late summer to early fall, typically when the nut clusters begin to turn brown and the husks loosen their grip. Once the nuts start dropping naturally, gather them from the ground or gently shake branches to encourage ripe nuts to fall—hazelnuts are ready when they detach easily. Remove any remaining husks by hand and spread the nuts out in a single layer to dry in a cool, well-ventilated area for a week or two, which improves flavor and storage quality. Avoid picking green nuts still tightly held in their husks, as they haven’t fully matured. After drying, store hazelnuts in a cool, dry place or refrigerate for long-term freshness.

Pleasantly surprised.
Color: Absolute Black, Size: Z1 Motor + Batteries
Honestly, I bought this because it was on sale and I needed to add something to my cart to get one day free shipping. I had zero expectations and thought I'd use it when I travel and won't have access to my espresso machine but I'm blown away by what it can accomplish in its small form factor. It took 30s to froth the milk and it was well-incorporated into the milk, not with just foam on top and milk at the bottom. I could have the frothed milk all day. It's easier to clean than the steam wand and it does plant-based milk cold foam!! It blows the Ikea one out of the water for about the same price point. Glad I stumbled into it!

Works great for daily use, just be prepared to replace batteries
Color: Absolute Black, Size: Z1 Motor + Batteries
I use this every morning to mix protein powder into my coffee, and it works well. It is quick, easy to use, and does a great job blending everything smoothly without clumps. For the price, it’s a great little tool and has definitely been worth it for daily use. The only downside is that I do have to replace the batteries fairly often, about every 3–4 weeks with regular use. Overall, it’s a very convenient and effective frother, especially for the cost. I would recommend it, just keep extra batteries on hand if you plan to use it daily.

The BEST Frother!!! (with a ONE YEAR UPDATE as of February 2026!)
Color: Black, Size: normal
I absolutely LOVE this little gem of a product. LOVE IT!! I use this thing every single day to mix up powdered collagen into a latte. It is so much fun to use. Every time I use it I sing out loud, "Oh little frother....where have you been all my life??" Ha ha! My brother had one at his house that we used to make whipped cream from heavy cream and I was honestly amazed at how quickly 2-3 ounces of heavy cream turned into delicious whipped cream for our coffees (like less than 10 seconds!) My brother has the kind that rests on a little stand, but honestly I did not want that type because the stand seemed unstable and honestly, a PITA to have standing on the counter. I like that this one does not have a stand. At first I thought the battery was going to die instantly, because it slowed down at first when I tried the first few times. But, I figured out how to use it and the trick of it is to not submerge it too far down into the drink where the little motor will struggle to keep up. Instead, I move it around a bit, giving it little periods of rest towards the top of the drink where the motor can more easily whip the liquid around. I have had this several months and the original battery just keeps on chuggin' even with daily use. The speed is crazy fast and makes the milk froth up so nicely. My collagen gets mixed up within seconds. I am talking 3-5 seconds at most. This little guy is an absolute MUST for anyone wanting to mix up protein powder, collagen, powdered vitamins/quercetin (which is famous for being extremely difficult to mix into orange juice.) It works that great. I seriously just love using it so much and should have bought one years ago. It is rare to buy a product that is super reasonable in cost and turns out to work really well and be worth every penny. It is also very easy to clean--a quick rinse under the faucet or a little sudsy scrub and you are good to go for the next time. I sought out this particular brand after reading another customer's review of a different brand frother. She pointed out that this brand was head and shoulders above the other types she has tried and I believe she is probably right. The "ON" button is at the top so it does not get in the way or splashed with liquid or anything. I use this with other drinks too, like to mix lemon juice with stevia sweetener into water, MSM powder into pomegranite juice, and just regular coffee with half and half to give the coffee a more luxurious mouthfeel when I do not feel like taking the time to make a latte or cappuccino. This frother is seriously the best. I wish there was a different color to select other than black but it was not a deal breaker, obviously. I would 100% purchase this again if needed. UPDATE, 02/21/26: I have now had this little frother for ONE FULL YEAR! And I am here to say that, in my humble opinion, it has won my personal award for "Best Product Purchased For Me" for the year 2025! I use this little guy EVERY day to make a latte, and sometimes multiple times a day to mix up other drinks, and he is just chuggin' along on the same battery as the day he arrived in the mail back in February 2025. Now my husband is hooked on it too. Here are the drinks we have used it for in the past year: - whirling up MCT oil into coffee; - mixing baking soda, water, and flavored stevia drops (it's an emergency stomach ulcer elixir that I drink sometimes) - frothing up raw, organic cocoa powder with milk and sugar - my daily lattes with collagen powder - mixing up any number of liquid vitamin tinctures that I take with water - whipping up a teaspoon of wheatgrass powder into 2 or 3 ounces of water for a quick shot - as stated earlier, mixing thoroughly quercetin and vitamin C powders into orange juice I am sure I have used it for a few other drinks but these are the ones we use it for the most. I stand by my original review and opinion. This is, hands down, THE BEST MINI FROTHER!! Congratulations little frother, on winning the award for being the best purchase for me in the year 2025! I will come back here in February 2027 with a brief update on how my little frother is working 24 months from purchase. ANOTHER UPDATE, 05/26/26: The two double AA batteries FINALLY took their last breath on May 26, 2026. The original batteries lasted a full one year and four months (and someone has used it AT LEAST once per day, every day, without fail.) Two brand new batteries went in, and I guess it must be because the batteries are 100% fresh, but I swear that now this frother is working even better than the day I got it!

Great Mixer At A Great Price.
Color: Black, Size: normal
I purchased this mixer over 6 months ago. I use it at least 2 to 3 times a day to mix fiber into a flavored drink. It also gets used for mixing gravy and Chinese sauces. So from light to medium duty and no problems at all. One battery lasted over 4 months. I did try an alternate wand mixer($15 to $20) with variable speed to try and slow the mixing down a bit. It's low speed(fast) was the same as this mixer so I sent it back and kept this one. In addition to being more economical the simplicity of the single speed should give it good reliability. Lastly, if it gets damaged you're only out ~$7.00
