Monstera Deliciosa – Swiss Cheese Plant
A striking tropical houseplant with serious jungle vibes, the Monstera deliciosa commonly known as the Swiss Cheese Plant is a bold and beautiful addition to any indoor space. Known for its iconic split leaves and quirky, hole-filled foliage, this climbing vine matures into a stunning statement piece, especially when supported by a moss pole or trellis.
Despite its exotic looks, it’s surprisingly low-maintenance, making it a favourite among both new and seasoned plant lovers. The name Deliciosa refers to its rare, edible fruit (though it rarely fruits indoors), while Monstera comes from the Latin for “monstrous” – a nod to its impressively large leaves.
Why You’ll Love It:
Dramatic split and holey leaves – A natural showstopper
Easy to care for – Thrives with basic attention and a little love
Climbs beautifully – Ideal for moss poles, trellises, or letting it trail
Plant Care Tips:
Light:
• Prefers bright, indirect light
• Avoid direct sun – it can scorch the foliage
• Will tolerate lower light but may grow slower or with fewer splits
Water:
• Water when the top inch of soil feels dry
• Allow excess water to drain – avoid soggy soil to prevent root rot
Humidity & Temperature:
• Enjoys humidity (ideal 50–60%) – mist regularly or use a pebble tray
• Thrives in 18–29°C (65–85°F) – avoid cold drafts or sudden temp changes
Feeding:
• Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer
Training & Maintenance:
• Train upward with a moss pole or trellis for best shape and support
• Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep them dust-free and glossy
• Prune leggy stems or damaged leaves to encourage fresh growth
Watch Out For:
• Yellowing leaves: Often caused by overwatering or lack of light
• Brown tips: Usually a sign of low humidity or underwatering
• Pale foliage: Can mean it needs more light
• Pests: Keep an eye out for spider mites and scale
A sculptural favourite that brings lush, tropical energy into your home – the Monstera deliciosa is a timeless plant that’s both bold in size and easy on care.
The plant's growth rate and size will vary depending on planting position & conditions, and bloom, foliage and interest may vary from photo upon delivery, dependant on season.
