All the Details You Need to Know

The Story Behind This Plant

Native to the wetlands of Central and South America, the Pachira aquatica is a hardy survivor. The legend of the Money Tree began with a poor man who prayed for wealth and discovered this unique plant growing in his fields. He began selling the seedlings and eventually became very wealthy, crediting the plant for his success. Today, the braided trunk is a modern tradition meant to "lock in" the good luck and fortune within the plant’s stems.

How to Keep It Happy

The secret to a thriving Money Tree is consistency and avoiding overwatering. It loves a humid environment!

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light levels, but its growth will slow down. Avoid direct, harsh sunlight which can scorch the leaves.
  • Water: Water when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry. Be sure to water deeply until it drains, but never let the plant sit in a saucer of water, as this can cause root rot.
  • Humidity: Being a wetland native, it loves humidity. Mist the leaves regularly or place it near a humidifier, especially during dry Canadian winters.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a peat-based mix with added perlite or sand for aeration.
  • Temperature: Keep it in a warm spot (18°C–24°C). Avoid cold drafts or placing it directly next to heating vents.
What to Do About Pests

Money Trees are generally hardy, but they can occasionally attract pests if the air is too dry or the soil is too wet:

  • Fungus Gnats: These small flies appear if the soil stays damp for too long. Let the soil dry out more between waterings.
  • Spider Mites: Tiny webs on the undersides of leaves usually mean the air is too dry. Increasing humidity is the best prevention. Our Guide
  • Mealybugs: Look for white, cottony spots on the stems or leaf joints. Our Guide

Indestructible
Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable
This is actually indestrutible! Be careful though, it's wicked hard/heavy. It isn't a ball you want banging into things. Use outside!!

Not indestructible, but the best I’ve found
Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable, Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable
This thing is unexpectedly heavy for its size. My 18 month old Giant Schnauzer is obsessed with fetch but destroys every ball she gets. The other brands marketed for extreme chewers tend to last about a day or two before they’re totally shredded. She’s had this one for about 2 weeks and it’s looking rough, but still holding together for the most part. I appreciate that as it comes apart it does so in little pieces rather than large chunks. While it’s far from indestructible, it’s the strongest I’ve found so far.

Finally, a toy my dog hasn’t murdered
If your dog destroys toys like it’s their full-time job, this stick is the boss-level challenge they didn’t see coming. I gave it to my power-chewer (a pit mix with jaws of steel), and after a week of gnawing, tossing, and dramatic tug-of-war battles, it’s still intact. Not even a dent. I think it might be made of space-grade rubber or the same stuff they use in black boxes. It’s got a good weight to it — heavy enough to feel solid, light enough to toss without pulling a shoulder. No squeaker, no fluff, no sad stuffing guts all over the living room. Just pure chewable glory. Pros: • Actually indestructible (or close enough) • Great for aggressive chewers • No squeaker = peace and quiet • Easy to clean and doesn’t smell weird • Doubles as a fetch toy and chew stick Minor feedback: It’s a bit heavy for small dogs, and it doesn’t bounce or squeak — but if your dog’s into serious chewing, they won’t care. Also, don’t drop it on your foot. Trust me. Final thoughts: This toy is the Chuck Norris of dog sticks. If your pup has shredded everything else, give this a shot. It might just survive — and so might your sanity.
