About Santa Cruz Cypress

Found wild in only 5 small pockets on California’s central coast, the Santa Cruz Cypress (Cupressus abramsiana) is one of the rarest trees in North America, and is protected under the Endangered Species Act of 1973.

A small- to medium-sized evergreen, Santa Cruz Cypress tends to grow in a symmetrical, pyramidal fashion, featuring the signature scale-like needles typical of the Cupressaceae family, which grow in slender, delicate sprays. Similar in appearance to both the Gowen Cypress (Cupressus goveniana) and the Sargent's Cypress (Cupressus sargentii) — and still at the center of some controversy among taxonomists as to its classification as a separate species — the Santa Cruz Cypress is set apart by its ability to grow in nonserpentine soils and the larger size of its cones, which measure up to 1.25 inches-long. Bark is gray, thin, and broken into plates.

Usually remaining under 30 feet-tall, this is a great species for smaller gardens and container growing.

About Jonsteen's Seedlings

All of our trees are seed-grown at our nursery on California's Redwood Coast, which is inspected monthly and licensed by the California Department of Agriculture. Trees can provide a natural barrier against high winds, temperatures, noise pollution and soil erosion, all while benefiting local air quality, wildlife and property values — a Jonsteen seedling will only grow in value and beauty!

About Jonsteen's 100% Guarantee

All of our trees are guaranteed to arrive healthy and in good condition. If your tree perishes despite your honest efforts, we will be happy to replace it with a small-sized seedling for just the cost of shipping/handling. You can learn more about our guarantee and tree replacement policy here.

Size Chart

Seedling Size Chart: Small

Due to the dynamic nature of actively growing trees, as well as the tremendous variation between species’ growth rates, we rely on the cubic volume of a seedling’s root mass to determine its “size” (Small / Medium / Large / XL). Within each size there is minor variance — the dimensions provided here represent the category minimum. If exact measurements are essential, please contact us about current stock.

All around helpful---worth the money!
Format: Paperback
This guide has been most helpful for all the folks I help prepare for the iTEP test! It gives insight into what each section of the test is looking for along with examples and great tips about actually TAKING the test. In the Writing and Speaking sections, it also gives sample scores and comments from the Master Grader which is very helpful too.

Comprehensive, clear and coherent!
Format: Paperback
The iTEP Practice Guide combines a no-nonsense approach to the specific iTEP tests and at the same time offers exercises that task the student with what they need to know. Exercises not only serve the purpose of scoring well, but the overall approach is communicative competence. We use the text in our group and one-to-one classes with very positive--and lasting--results.
