Serrano Hot Pepper Seeds - Capsicum annuum

Originating from the mountains of the Mexican states of Puebla and Hidalgo, these spicy peppers received their name of the mountain, from the Spanish definition.  Recognized for the perfect balance in heat, flavor, color and texture, this is one popular pepper!

Ranging in  10,000–20,000 Scoville heat units, this medium to hot pepper turns from green to red, once fully mature.  While green, the Serrano is mild-hot and will increase in heat as it matures.  Harvest while the peppers are green and they plant will continue to flower.

With a 1.5" - 3" body this pepper will give you something to get excited about!

May be sensitive to too much heat.  Shade cloth may be necessary to prevent wilting.

Excellent in pico de gallo, homemade hot sauces, salsas and of course any dish desiring some heat!

Gardener Tips

Seeds should be planted indoors and kept in a dome with light and a heated mat for 4-8 weeks.

It is key that your new starts be hardened off.  This is a process that requires taking them outside during the day, for a period of time, before they are planted. This acclimates your seedlings to the outside world, meaning the elements like the wind and sun. We do it for several weeks to a month as this strengthens their stems and overall plant structure.

  • Start for a short period of time initially, then graduate to more time each day
  • One week minimum is recommended
  • Bring them inside in the early evening and overnight
  • Keep an eye on them and constantly water them. Make sure they have not blown over.

Harvesting Tips

When harvesting, take caution to not touch an open part of the pepper with your bare hands. The capsaicin can cause severe irritation and discomfort to the hands, eyes and any other part of the body.  Important to use garden gloves and shears when pruning the plant or harvesting  any fruit.

Keep in mind when processing ripe fruit, the seeds and pith are very hot and we always recommend using gloves when processing hot peppers.

Love the long sleeves!!!
Color: White, Size: Small
Love it! I'm 5' 11" tall and I purchased this according to reviews. Several people commented on the length of the sleeves. I have a hard time finding sleeves long enough if it's not " tall" sized. It was perfect for me. If this washes nice I'm going to consider purchasing more in other colors. I ordered the white and just love the long ribbed cuffs with the line of buttons. Very soft.

Nice cozy sweater, but handwashing is recommended
Color: Beige, Size: Medium
Soft and cozy, but does not wash well. Goes with everything. This sweater fits well and looks great. I received lots of compliments while wearing it.

Great sweater for winters in the Midwest
Color: Black, Size: X-Large
Love this sweater! I went back and got another color! The fit is true to size and very comfy. The button detail on the sleeves just adds a little pizazz. The weight of the sweater is perfect for winters in the Midwest.

Flattering fit
Color: Dark Green, Size: XX-Large
This sweater is thick and stretchy but holds a nice shape, and is flattering on the body. The sleeves are nice and long too, which I really appreciate, being a tall person... the button detail is a great addition. True to size. I haven't washed it yet, and I imagine, based on the kind of woolly knit it is, that this sweater will eventually pill... but for now I'm enjoying being cozy and stylish. The deep green color is almost black green. I LOVE IT.

Love it
Color: Dark Green, Size: Small
I got the dark green. Love the sweater and it's warm. I do layer the sweater as well. It is as pictured. Size is perfect to me. I like sweaters to be longer and a bit wider in case it is freezing and I need to layer it. This sweater is perfect for layering. It comes closer to my backside, it is a little wide and not snug, and I like that the sleeves come over my wrists
