Aglaonema 'Snowflake'

Dense pale speckling across green leaves gives Aglaonema 'Snowflake' its crisp, spotted pattern. Cream, silver and white flecks sit across smooth oval-lance blades, while the green base keeps each leaf clearly outlined.

The plant starts as a small central crown and slowly builds into a fuller clump. Young plants need careful watering, steady warmth and a snug pot while the roots fill the container.

Foliage details

  • Growth habit: Compact clumping crown with short stems and regular new leaves.
  • Leaf pattern: Green blades with dense pale speckling and cream-silver marbling.
  • Leaf shape: Oval to lance-shaped leaves with smooth surfaces and defined margins.
  • Small-pot behaviour: Young plants prefer careful watering and gradual pot increases.

Compact growth and origin

Aglaonema 'Snowflake' produces bright speckled foliage from a small central crown. Leaves sit closer together when the plant gets filtered light, warm roots and a pot that does not stay wet at the base.

The genus Aglaonema is native from north-eastern India to Papua New Guinea and grows in warm, shaded tropical habitats. The dense pale flecking across the green leaves gives this cultivar its snow-speckled look.

Aglaonema 'Snowflake' care essentials

  • Light: Give bright indirect light so new leaves stay shorter and the crown does not open up loosely.
  • Watering: Water when the upper 2–4 cm of substrate feels dry. Small pots can dry at the edge while staying damp below.
  • Substrate: Use a fine airy aroid mix with perlite, pumice or fine bark for root oxygen.
  • Drainage: Use a pot with drainage holes and empty decorative covers after watering.
  • Temperature: Keep above 18 °C. Warm roots help young crowns restart after shipping and push new leaves without translucent cold marks.
  • Humidity: Moderate humidity reduces stuck or marked new leaves; dry heated air may crisp pale leaf edges.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth. Young plants need gentle nutrition in a small root area.
  • Repotting: Repot once roots have filled the current pot, moving up gradually.
  • Pruning: Remove ageing leaves cleanly at the base and trim older stems above a node if the crown opens.
  • Propagation: Divide rooted side shoots or root stem cuttings in warm, humid conditions.

Growth and leaf cues

  • Open, loose crown: Increase filtered light gradually and rotate the pot so new leaves do not all lean to one side.
  • Yellow soft leaves: Check for wet substrate, cool roots or a pot holding too much moisture.
  • Brown pale patches: Move the plant away from direct sun or intense heat through glass.
  • Slow post-shipping growth: Keep the plant warm and lightly moist until new roots grip the mix and new leaves start moving again.

Pet and child safety

Aglaonema 'Snowflake' contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals. Eaten plant tissue can cause oral irritation and digestive discomfort, so place the pot where pets and small children cannot reach the leaves. Clean tools and hands after pruning.

Memories of the Camino
Format: Paperback
First off, I have to say that my husband and I know Angela, the author. We met her because she is a neighbor of my sister, living in Hawaii. We discovered that she planned to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela the same year we were (2016) ! On a visit to Hawaii, we met with Angela and did a little local hike together. She was so enthusiastic and had prepared well. We, too, had been reading up and watching videos, getting suggestions as to what to bring, how to deal with physical issues and weather, what to pack and what not to pack, etc. Still, for anyone doing the Camino - whether the WHOLE 500 miles or doing the required 100 km to get the certificate at the final destination: Santiago de Compostela, Spain - it is a very personal endeavor. Reading Angela Leslee's book gives you the personal story of her "camino," and it is captivating. The changes that take place in her life - the discoveries she makes, the people she meets, the failures she feels, the fears, the habits that get broken (such as food choices!) - all make for an adventure that is life-changing and an interesting read. For anyone considering this pilgrimage, because that's what it is, this book will inspire you. You don't need to be part of a "group." You don't need a lot of plans. You do need to be prepared to be changed. The memory for myself and my husband is that it is the best shared experience we have had together in our 50 years of marriage! Angela's book brought back so many wonderful memories for us. I highly recommend this book.

Feeling Inspired!
Format: Paperback
Reading "The Way of Love" has inspired and encouraged me as I plan for my first (solo) Camino. I thank Angela Leslee for being unafraid to bare all the emotions in her book: the joys, victories, setbacks, disappointments, and pain. It's evident that "The Way of Love" was a labor of love as page after page recounts the 500 miles she walked! I told the author in an email that, in September, when I walk my Camino, I'll be sure to be up and out on the trail "...before sunrise when the yellow street lights cast their magical glow." Can't wait to experience that! "The Way of Love" -- easy to read and enjoy.

the good, the bad, the funny, the reality
Format: Kindle
A great memoir of an “older” woman walking the Camino de Santiago alone. Alone but with many friendships along the way.

An Honest Tale
Format: Kindle
When someone you know writes a heart-felt story of a journey of self-discovery, it's startling to realize how little you knew of their self. Walking the Camino across Spain in 40 days of pain and revelations, Angela takes us on an epic journey into her soul. She marvels, delights, laughs, and cries at the breath-taking scenery, the scents of forests and fields of flowers and grasses, the fellow pilgrims she meets and re-encounters across the 40 days. Day by day we travel with her. Her account of everyday life on the journey is vivid. I recommend this book to everyone who has been, or wants to go, on a voyage of self-examination, who wants to question why they are living in the way they are. Maybe life could be different, if one took time to try a different way.
