The Alocasia Cucullata, affectionately known as Buddha’s Palm, is a striking tropical plant with a sculptural quality that makes it a favourite among collectors and designers alike. What sets this variety apart is its thick, swollen trunks — reminiscent of bonsai trees — which support a canopy of glossy, heart-shaped leaves that gently sway with the air.

Size
Supplied in a 12cm nursery pot, approx. 40cm tall on arrival. It’s a compact plant with big impact — easy to style on shelves, sideboards, or desktops.

Native Habitat and Growth Patterns
In the wild, Alocasia cucullata grows in the humid, shaded understories of Southeast Asian forests. It clings to life in warm, moist environments, forming a thickened base to store water during dry spells — which is where those unusual trunks come from. The leaf stems rise neatly from the base, creating a natural “fountain” effect that’s both elegant and practical in the jungle and at home.

Styling at Home
Those bonsai-like trunks are begging to be shown off. Try placing your Alocasia Cucullata in a low ceramic bowl or wide planter where its chunky base can take centre stage. It looks fantastic in both modern and traditional interiors — from minimalist apartments to heritage townhouses. It’s especially beautiful when paired with soft-leaved trailing plants or other sculptural forms like Ficus or Dracaena.

Care Requirements
Surprisingly easy-going for an Alocasia:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is best. A few hours of morning sun is fine, but avoid harsh afternoon rays.

  • Water: Let the top layer of soil dry out slightly between waterings. Never let it sit in water.

  • Humidity: Loves a humid spot — perfect for bathrooms or kitchens, or mist regularly.

  • Feeding: Feed once a month during the growing season with our Organic Tropical Plant Food to support healthy leaves and trunk development.

Why Choose This Plant
The Alocasia Cucullata brings a sense of peace and order to your plant collection. Its thick base and elegant form feel timeless — like a living sculpture that rewards quiet observation. Whether you’re a bonsai lover or simply after something that feels grounded and meditative, this is a perfect choice.

Interesting Facts

  • In its native Thailand, this plant is often grown around Buddhist temples, where it’s said to bring good luck and calm.

  • The swollen “trunks” act as water reservoirs — an adaptation that makes it more resilient than fussier Alocasias.

Great for small to medium heat transfer projects.
Color: Lavender Purple, Color: Lavender Purple
This is perfect for small heat transfer projects. I used a few ready to press designs and it worked pretty well. It is small, portable, lightweight, and has a few heat settings on it. If you are looking to use it for sublimination, it is not the right fit. Tried sublimination and while there was enough heat to transfer some of the image, because of the size, it is really hard to get even, exact pressure over the entire project area which results in uneven, spotty results. All in all, great for small to medium heat transfer projects, and perfect for someone just getting in to heat transfer.

HTVRONT is the competition
Color: Mint
I've never purchased an HTVRONT product that I didn't like. I really like this mini heatpress. It's perfect for pressing small pieces for quilting, or a piece of vynil when a larger press is too much. I like the color and design but more importantly, it heats as it should with no glitches. I have another mini press from a different leading brand and comparitively, this one is the better of the two. I caught it on sale but at regular price I would have still bought it.

Just As Good As Cricut- Half the Cost
Color: Pink, Color: Pink
I had a Cricut mini press, but my mother loved it for her quilting so much that I had given it to her. I learned after that it was a mistake as I used it more than I had realized. When looking back at the price, I could not justify almost $40, so I waited. I have been a user of HTVRONT's other products for years, so I finally gave it a chance. The package came with the mini press neatly resting in a fine quality box, where it is easy to store. It feels sturdy and well made without any weird smells. It has a nice weight to it, but not too heavy. It evenly distributed heat making it easy to apply the HTV onto my project. I was able to easily use it on felt and cotton. I actually prefer it has a dial for temperatures rather than buttons like the cricut. 10/10 would recommend.

High Recommend!!!
Color: Mint
This mini heat press packs a lot of heat! It’s very easy to use and it’s light weight. I use it for my crochet projects when ironing patches on. The silicon holder didn’t burn when resting the mini machine on it either. This is a pretty sturdy mini press and I am very happy with my purchase.
