Description

Gotu kola plant, or Centella asiatica, is a rare and highly sought-after plant celebrated for its medicinal properties. This low-growing herb with rounded leaves is revered in traditional Asian medicine for its ability to enhance cognitive function and promote skin health. Despite its acclaim, locating Gotu kola can be challenging in Europe due to the fact that it's not cultivated on this continent.

The Gotu kola plant was cultivated from seeds sourced from Sri Lanka, nurtured meticulously in an indoor greenhouse in the Netherlands under LED lights. Planted in well-draining soil, the seeds were provided with optimal conditions mimicking natural sunlight. The controlled environment of the greenhouse ensured consistent temperatures between 20-25°C. This allowes the rare and valued Gotu kola plant to thrive even in a temperate climate.

Gotu kola, scientifically known as Centella asiatica, is a low-growing herbaceous plant revered globally for its medicinal benefits. In traditional Asian medicine, it is used to enhance cognitive function and support skin health. In India and Sri Lanka, it's consumed fresh in salads or brewed into teas for its rejuvenating properties. In Southeast Asia, it's integrated into various culinary dishes. Its adaptogenic qualities make it a valued herb.

Shipped with confidence from our nursery in the Netherlands, centrally located in Europe, ensuring swift delivery. Each tree is securely packaged in a special blister in a sturdy cardboard box, guaranteeing protection during transit. This method ensures that your tree arrives fresh and in pristine condition, ready to thrive in their new environment upon arrival. A care sheet is included in the box.

Properties and care

Gotu kola thrives well in a pot in temperate climates.
Use well-draining soil and place in partial shade. Water consistently to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.

Fertilize with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Maintain humidity around 50-60% and keep temperatures between 20-25°C.

Gotu kola self-pollinates, so no special pollination is necessary. With proper care, your potted Gotu kola will flourish and provide its beneficial properties.

Additional info

Gotu kola, scientifically named Centella asiatica, is a versatile herbaceous plant known by various names across different languages and cultures. In Sanskrit, it is called “Mandukaparni,” which translates to “the plant that resembles the shape of a frog’s foot,” reflecting its distinctive leaf shape. In Chinese, it is known as “Ji xue cao,” meaning “herb of centipedes,” highlighting its traditional use in treating skin conditions. Other names: spadeleaf, hydrocotyle, manduki-parni, madekassol and thankuni.

Propagation of Gotu kola primarily involves both seeds and vegetative methods. Seeds are sown in well-draining soil, kept consistently moist until germination, which typically occurs within 10-14 days under optimal conditions of 20-25°C. Vegetative propagation is achieved through root divisions or stem cuttings. Healthy sections of the root or stem are planted in moist soil and kept in a warm, humid environment until roots develop and new growth emerges.

Gotu kola is well-adapted to various climates, thriving in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. It prefers moist, fertile soil and partial shade to full sun exposure. In addition to its use in traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Gotu kola is also valued in culinary practices. Its fresh leaves are used in salads, soups, and stir-fries, while its dried form is brewed into teas or extracted for medicinal preparations.

Overall, Gotu kola’s global recognition underscores its significance as a medicinal herb and culinary ingredient, offering a range of health benefits and culinary delights across diverse cultures.

Good for Teething puppies
Color: Teething Stick
After getting my fingers chewed and bitten by my new foster - 8 week old Yorkie , I was desperate to find good teething toys. Fortunately this one arrived quickly. Turned out to be very good for teething puppies! Charlie loves this cooling stick. Once it’s frozen, the cold really seems to soothe his sore gums. The icy part doesn’t stay frozen for long, but it works so well that I bought a second one to keep ready in the freezer while he’s working on the first. Even after it warmed up, he still enjoyed chewing on the soft stuffed part and the tentacles. The product card says not to use it as a chew toy, so supervision is a must, but it held up just fine so far. Overall, this has been a big help during the teething phase — short-lived when frozen, but very effective while it lasts! And worth every penny to save my fingers from being a chew toy.

Perfect for the aggressive chewer
Color: Purple
I purchased these because I have a 1-year-old black lab redbone coonhound mix who destroys every toy and Bone. I have gotten him in a short amount of time... These things have outstanded this little guy and he is still enjoying them! Keeps him occupied and satisfies his chewing for hours! And he leaves my shoes alone haha

Best for all chewers!
Color: Purple, Color: Purple
I purchased in February and waited until ive had them long enough to make a justified review. I have a very VERY aggressive chewer. He destroys every toy he gets within minutes or a hour. We didnt expect much out of these but why not. Let me tell you... they only have small teeth dents. No cracks, no breaks, no chunks missing, none in the trash, no bleeding gums... nothing. My chewer loves them. First day he just stared at them like they were alien objects but after we played fetch a few times it was on!! Now all three dogs chewer on them. I would say im purchasing again but I dont know when that will be lol I highly recommend to anyone!! Photo is taken today 6/4/26

My pit bull loves them.
Color: Purple
I picked up the Frienhund Tough Dog Toys 3-pack for my large, heavy chewer, and overall I’m pretty impressed. Right out of the box, the toys feel solid and well-made—definitely more durable than your average chew toy. My dog usually destroys new toys within a day or two, but these have held up significantly longer, which is a big win. They also do a great job of keeping him occupied. The shapes and textures seem to keep his interest, and I’ve noticed less destructive chewing on furniture since introducing these. That alone makes them worth it. The only reason I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that while they’re very tough, they’re not completely “indestructible” (despite the claim). After a couple of weeks of heavy use, there are some visible wear marks. Still, compared to most other toys we’ve tried, these last much longer. Overall, a great option for medium to large dogs that are aggressive chewers—durable, engaging, and a solid value for a 3-pack.
