Product Description

This listing is for a unique **crested variety** of the plant. It exhibits the same blooming characteristics as the standard version, but with a striking, coral-like or brain-like appearance due to its distinctive growth pattern.

Stapelia leendertziae, commonly known as Black Bells or Carrion Flower, is a fascinating succulent native to South Africa. It forms clump- or carpet-forming stems that are green with grey streaks and have small tubercles on the angles. The stems are quadrangular and can grow up to 8 inches (20 cm) long and 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick. Produces large, purple-brown to dark purple, bell-shaped flowers that can reach up to 3.2 inches (8 cm) in length. The flowers have a unique appearance and emit a smell reminiscent of decaying flesh to attract pollinators. Native to the mountains of the northeastern escarpment of South Africa, extending into Swaziland. It grows in subtropical or tropical dry shrubland and rocky areas

Origination: South Africa

Recommended Uses: Ornamental, Collectable

Height: 1Ft

Hardiness: USDA 10+ Flower Color: Dark Red/Maroon

Other Names: Carrion Flower

Growing Instructions:

Prefers full sun to partial shade. It thrives in strong light but should be protected from the harshest midday sun. Requires typical succulent watering—allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Adding perlite or sand can enhance drainage. Thrives in warm temperatures, ideally between 60°F to 80°F (15°C to 27°C). It does not handle frost well and should be kept indoors in colder climates. Moderate humidity levels are preferred. Mist occasionally if the air is too dry.

Ships in the 3.5” pots shown in the pictures. You will receive a plant that is very similar to the plants pictured however they may have grown some or depending on the time of year, they could be semi-dormant. Some plants will drop their leaves in winter - Crown of Thorns, Buddha Belly Jatropha, Etc. I have only grown plants in Florida and will send out anything I feel comfortable will grow here. It is up to you to know the conditions that these plants grow in the part of the country you reside. If your plant arrives rotting or dead, we will replace it for you. Please contact me with photo proof within 24 hours of delivery of your plants. It is my commitment to provide you with a live, healthy plant. Please note that minor cosmetic damage, such as a few broken leaves or small stems, may occur during transit and is a common risk inherent in the shipping process. Again, we cannot guarantee that some leaves won’t be broken or fall off- It is normal to lose some depending on the variety (Sedum, Echeveria, Cotyledon, Graptopetalum, etc...). Many kinds of leaves will re-root and grow into a new plant. Some that do not are Cotyledon and Aeonium. After 24 hours, my job is done and it is up to you (The buyer) to know how to keep it alive.

Heat packs are available for purchase with your item to use if cold weather is expected at the time of shipment. (Link to Heat Pack: bit.ly/40ugd4J ) Keep in mind some plants we carry are very tropical and even cold, not freezing, temperatures can kill them. I will cancel any order I feel won't make it safely to its destination without freezing. 📌IF YOU EXPECT COLD WEATHER, PLEASE PURCHASE A HEAT PACK! 📌 I don't make any profit off of them because they are a necessary shipping item in winter.

❗LOOK!!❗
Items cannot be shipped to CALIFORNIA or ARIZONA due to state import laws. Any orders from these states will be canceled. My apologies for this inconvenience.

Our dogs hurt their mouths chewing these bones
Color: Purple & Blue
I don't do a lot of reviews because I realize many are objective opinions. However, in this case I felt it was necessary to warn others. Our dogs are aggressive chewers. Their last rubber bones (not these) which we've purchased before, and recently purchased again, were destroyed quickly. Chunks of rubber came off the ends. Since those didn't hold up like they used to, I found these harder bones hoping they would last longer. They were able to gnaw into the hard plastic within a few minutes. This created sharp edges that cut their mouths. When I saw a bit of blood on the bones, I took them away from the dogs and threw them away. I wondered why they quit chewing on them after being so excited at first. Also, these are hard enough to damage a tooth.
