About Philodendron 'Burle Marx'

▼

Philodendron 'Burle Marx' is a popular and distinctive cultivar of the Philodendron genus, known for its unique foliage and compact growth habit. This cultivar is a tropical plant that originated from the hybridization of various Philodendron species, notably named after the Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx.

Philodendron 'Burle Marx' features striking, deeply lobed leaves that have a dramatic, almost sculptural appearance. The leaves are typically a rich, dark green and have a glossy texture. They are heart-shaped at the base and become more elongated with lobes as they mature. The plant maintains a bushy, compact form, growing to about 60–90 cm (24–36 inches) in height and width, making it an excellent choice for indoor spaces or smaller garden areas.

Easy Care Favorite: Philodendron 'Burle Marx' is valued for its easy care and adaptability, making it a favorite among plant enthusiasts and interior decorators. Its compact size and dramatic foliage create stunning visual impact in any indoor environment.

Growing Conditions

▼

Light Requirements

Philodendron 'Burle Marx' prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and hinder growth.

Temperature Preferences

This plant thrives in temperatures ranging from 18–27 °C (65–80 °F). It is best suited for USDA hardiness zones 10–11. Protect the plant from cold drafts and temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F).

Soil Composition

Philodendron 'Burle Marx' prefers well-draining, rich potting soil. A mix that includes peat moss, perlite, and compost works well to provide the right balance of moisture retention and drainage.

Water Management

Water the plant regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure proper drainage in the pot.

Planting and Care

▼

Planting Location

Philodendron 'Burle Marx' should be planted in a pot with good drainage. Use a high-quality potting mix that retains some moisture while allowing excess water to drain away.

Fertilization Program

Feed the plant with a balanced, liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilization in the fall and winter when the plant's growth slows.

Maintenance Requirements

Regular maintenance includes removing any dead or yellowing leaves and wiping the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust. Check for pests such as spider mites or aphids and address any infestations promptly. Pruning can help maintain the plant's shape and encourage bushier growth.

Propagation Methods

▼

Stem Cuttings

The most common method of propagating Philodendron 'Burle Marx' is through stem cuttings. Take a cutting with at least one node and a few leaves. Place the cutting in water or a potting mix and keep it warm and humid until roots develop.

Division Method

For larger plants, propagation can also be done by dividing the root ball during repotting. Separate the plant into smaller sections, each with its own roots and leaves, and pot them up individually.

Bed Sheets
Color: Bright White Striped, Size: Queen
I’m really happy with these bed sheets. They feel soft and comfortable against the skin, and the crisp white color gives the bed a clean, fresh look. The fabric is lightweight but still feels durable and well made. They fit the mattress nicely and stay in place throughout the night. After washing, they came out looking great with no noticeable shrinking or loss of softness.

Perfect Lightweight Sheets for Sensitive Hot sleepers
Color: Cream, Size: Queen
These sheets are soft, thin, and absolutely perfect for me. I have advanced CRPS and erythromelalgia, so I deal with severe nerve burning and heat sensitivity and cannot tolerate being overheated at all. I keep our AC between 56–64 degrees constantly, and since our studio is small, it usually stays around 61–63. These sheets have been a lifesaver for sleep. They are lightweight, breathable, and don’t trap heat, which helps me avoid extreme flare-ups and the intense burning pain I deal with. I'm bedridden so I need to be comfortable. They feel comfortable against my skin and don’t worsen my symptoms when I’m already in a lot of pain and look nice, wash nicely. For the price, they are also a great value. I’m genuinely grateful to have found something that helps me rest more comfortably. Will be buying more for us and gifts.

Great set of sheets
Color: Blue Pinstripe, Size: Twin
These microfiber sheets are incredibly soft and comfortable, especially for the price. I purchased the blue and white set for my daughter’s bed, and she loves them. The colors are bright and exactly as pictured. They fit the mattress well, don’t slip off the corners, and wash up nicely without pilling or fading. The brushed microfiber feels cozy and lightweight, making them great for year-round use. Overall, a great value and I would definitely buy another set.
