Botanical description.

This species is probably originally from northern Oman (Hajar Mountains). It is a succulent perennial that grows mainly in desert or dry shrubland. It is used both as a poison and a medicine. Vera means 'true' i.e., Aloe vera = True aloe .

Care.

A terracotta pot is perfect for an Aloe vera plant, it is porous and allows the soil to dry out between waterings. Make sure it has a drainage hole. Use potting soil for indoor plants or cactus soil, or regular peat-free all-purpose soil with a little gravel or perlite mixed in.
