Summary: This stunning air plant features an eye-catching pink bract resembling a quill, paired with graceful arching green leaves – a vibrant pop of colour for any space.
✨ Why You'll Love the Tillandsia cyanea
- Unique pink quill-shaped inflorescence with small purple blooms
- Compact size (P6 H15 cm) perfect for desks, shelves, or small apartments
- Low-maintenance and pet-safe – ideal for homes with cats or dogs
- Adds a tropical touch to Scandinavian, boho, or modern interiors
- Air-purifying and mood-boosting – brightens any room instantly
🌞 Light & Placement
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh midday sun to prevent leaf burn. Perfect near east or west-facing windows in European homes.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water the soil lightly once a week, keeping it slightly moist but never soggy. Mist the leaves regularly to maintain humidity, especially during winter heating months.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Thrives in well-draining orchid or bromeliad mix. Ensure pot has drainage holes to prevent root rot. Repot every 2–3 years if needed.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Non-toxic and completely pet-safe – perfect for households with curious cats and dogs.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Produces offsets (pups) at the base after flowering. Separate and replant pups once they reach about half the size of the mother plant to grow new Pink Quill plants.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Flowers once mature, with blooms lasting several months. After flowering, the mother plant gradually declines as pups grow to replace it. Maintain good airflow to keep foliage healthy.
🐛 Common Issues
Watch for rot if overwatered. Brown tips may indicate low humidity or underwatering.
🧬 Botanical Background
Tillandsia cyanea, native to Ecuador, is known as the Pink Quill plant due to its distinctive flat pink bract. It belongs to the Bromeliad family and naturally grows in humid forests, using its trichomes to absorb moisture from the air.
