Creating your own bonsai tree is an immersive and rewarding experience. In this beginner bonsai workshop, you will explore the fundamentals of bonsai, including its philosophy, styles, and forms. You will also learn how to create your own bonsai tree with guidance from an experienced teacher. During the Workshop You Will Receive

  • A tree to shape into a bonsai (which you will get to take home)
  • Hands on guidance to create your bonsai
  • All the materials required to create your bonsai such as soil, wire, and training pot
  • Our detailed bonsai care guide pamphlet

Add-Ons

We supply the necessary tools to create your bonsai tree during the workshop. If you'd like to purchase your own tools to take home, you can select them as an add-on, and they will be provided to you at the workshop.

Your Teacher

Hi, I'm Lance. I have been practicing the art of bonsai since 2009. My bonsai journey begun with an interest in Horticulture at 15 years old. I gained extensive experience and completed the qualifications needed to thrive in the NZ Horticulture industry. I have years of experience growing my own bonsai trees in New Zealand and I have visited the bonsai nurseries of Japan. My teaching style combines horticultural techniques with creative artistry, making our class enjoyable and digestible to the beginner. My passion for bonsai creates an immersive and memorable workshop experience. I look forward to making bonsai with you!

Time & Location

The workshop typically lasts 90 minutes, but we set aside 2 hours to accommodate any questions and discussions that may extend that time. We run our bonsai workshops at our pop-up store in New Plymouth (9 Devon Street East).

Booking for Multiple People

If booking for multiple people, please list all attendee names in the Courier Notes section. We are unable to accommodate 2 persons to 1 bonsai tree as our workshop is small and our table has numbered seats.

Booking for Children

If you are booking for you and a child, you must purchase two spots. Children are welcome to attend if you feel they will engage with the content and not disrupt the class. We cannot prioritize instruction to younger children over other attendees, for this reason, children (under 12) require a paying parent or guardian to be present to assist the child in the workshop.

Please see our refund and cancellation policy here. All bookings include a $40 non-refundable deposit.

Puppy loves these sticks!
Color: Dogwood & Calming, Size: Medium
Dogs love these sticks! Must smell and taste like real wood because it keeps my puppy from bringing real sticks in the house from outside. She is a heavy chewer and these sticks keep her occupied. We are on our 2nd set.

Great value for the price, highly recommend
Color: Dogwood & Calming, Size: Medium
Our dog loves these and chews them down to nothing. They are a great value for the money and the use your dog gets out of them. The size is just right for our doberdor.

Our dog loves it but it wasn’t durable enough to last
Color: Dogwood Jack, Size: Large, Color: Dogwood Jack, Size: Large
Our lab took to it as soon as we gave it to her. Perfect size for our 80 lb yellow lab. However, now that it’s in about 10 days, she’s able to break off chunks from this bone that are dime size or larger, and we have to throw it away

No problems after a year and a half
Color: Dogwood & Calming, Size: Medium
Have been regularly buying these for my corgi for about a year and a half. The 2 pack lasts about a month or 2 each time. Pieces break off in small enough pieces that they safely pass through his digestive system. He gnaws each one down to about 1/4 the original size before we take it away and give him a new one. He continues to have regular bowel movements and has a healthy appetite so I can’t imagine any problems arising after so long. I have tried other alternatives and every other similar chew breaks off in larger pieces and didn’t feel comfortable letting him chew/eat them. I noticed there are a few 1 star reviews saying their dogs got sick off these but after a year and a half I have had 0 issues with this product. I guess it depends on the dog and how big of pieces they are swallowing. My dog ingests pieces about the size of a grain of rice so just pay attention and you should be fine.
