Schefflera arboricola ‘Gold Capella’, also known as the Variegated Umbrella Plant, is one of the most striking and easy-care tropical houseplants, loved for its glossy, multi-toned foliage and compact growth. A member of the Araliaceae family and native to Taiwan and southern China, this variety brings brightness and structure to any room.

The ‘Gold Capella’ cultivar features clusters of vibrant green and golden-yellow leaves, arranged in an umbrella-like pattern of seven to nine leaflets. Each leaf displays its own unique marbling — some with bold golden splashes, others with subtle variegated streaks. Its upright, bushy form makes it a perfect feature plant for bright living rooms, offices, and conservatories, instantly adding tropical elegance and colour.

Renowned for its resilience and adaptability, Schefflera ‘Gold Capella’ is the perfect blend of beauty and simplicity — a classic indoor favourite for both new and experienced plant owners.

Schefflera arboricola ‘Gold Capella’ – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain the strong variegation. It will tolerate medium light but may lose colour contrast in low-light conditions. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist in spring and summer, but allow it to dry out slightly between waterings. In winter, water less frequently. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Prefers 18–26°C. Avoid cold draughts and temperatures below 12°C.

  • Humidity: Adapts to average indoor humidity levels. Mist occasionally to keep leaves glossy and to prevent leaf edges from drying out.

Soil and Potting

Use a free-draining, peat-free houseplant compost. Mixing in perlite or coarse sand will help improve drainage. Repot every 2–3 years in spring to refresh the soil and support growth.

Feeding

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Pause feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows.

Pruning and Maintenance

Prune regularly to maintain a bushy, compact shape. Trim leggy stems and remove any yellow or damaged leaves. Rotate occasionally for even growth on all sides. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to restore their shine and remove dust.

Growth and Maturity

A moderate grower that typically reaches 60–120 cm indoors. With regular pruning, it remains full and symmetrical.

Common Issues

  • Leaf drop: Caused by sudden temperature changes or overwatering.

  • Faded variegation: Insufficient light.

  • Brown edges: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.

  • Pests: Occasionally mealybugs, scale insects, or spider mites.

Background and Benefits

Schefflera arboricola ‘Gold Capella’ is a variegated form of the classic Umbrella Plant, renowned for its reliability and tropical charm. Its rich, two-toned foliage brightens darker corners and complements other leafy tropicals beautifully. In addition to its ornamental value, it’s also known for its air-purifying properties, helping to remove common indoor pollutants.

Low-maintenance, long-lived, and full of colour, it’s the ideal plant for adding life and vibrancy to your indoor garden.

It froths, but is not dependent
Color: C-Black, Size: Model C Rechargeable
While this frother does “froth”, it has many more cons than pros. The ONLY pro is it froths. The cons—only good for a traditional coffee cup. It is not water proof, and the instructions say to keep the “unit “ dry. As you froth, the liquid naturally raises height. If you are trying to use a Togo coffee mug, or thermos type travel mug—it only works well if done it three or four levels to ensure keeping the motor above the liquid. The “rechargeable “ function DOES recharge, however- it may last 1use or a few. It’s VERY inconsistent. And does not seem to be related to how long you allow it to charge. Overall—not a good buy. I had mine maybe 3 months before it quit working. And at 2 months it started becoming spastic. Even after just being charged-it wouldn’t even froth 1cup. AVOID!!

Easy to Use and Works Great
Color: C-Black, Size: Model C Rechargeable, Color: C-Black, Size: Model C Rechargeable
This milk frother works amazingly well! It’s powerful, easy to use, and creates rich, creamy foam in just seconds. The rechargeable design is very convenient, and the battery lasts a long time between charges. It feels sturdy and well-made, and cleaning it is quick and simple. I use it every day for my coffee, lattes, and hot chocolate, and it has exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking for an affordable and effective milk frother, this is definitely a great choice. Highly recommended

Love mine! No more batteries. I make at least two cups a day and froth my creamer. Love the fact I don’t have to recharge very often.

Works way better than its price would suggest
Color: Storage Cover Black, Size: Rechargeable
A family member got frothed milk in their coffee and loved it, so they started doing it at home. They were using a wand mixer which is great at splashing milk all over creation but not very good at actually frothing it. I asked them what kind of frother they wanted and they gave me 2 criteria: Rechargeable, and inexpensive. They didn't want to spend a lot on something they might not like or might outgrow, and they didn't want to constantly be looking for batteries. This frother fits the bill. It recharges with a regular USB-C cable and comes with a short one (but not a wall plug so make sure you have one of those). It was also less than $11 delivered so not a lot to gamble on an occasional-use gadget. Does it work? Absolutely, and a lot better than I ever thought it would. I was given a demonstration and in 10 seconds I saw a small cup of half and half turn into frothy foam. I'll admit, it does taste pretty good in coffee. I 3D printed a stand to hold the mixer upright on the counter. Otherwise the base is too small and it tips over. That's not a complaint, just an observation. If you want it to stand upright, you'll have to do something similar. Otherwise, this thing is a good combination of simple, inexpensive, and effective.
