wildflower seeds shade deer resistant Deer Defense Seed Mix — Northwest MeadowscapesWeve gotten so many requests over the years for an easy to grow seed mix that defies deer, that we finally had to dig in and create one. For a full disclaimer, deer will nip, taste, and browse a huge range of plants, including many of the ones included in this mix. However, based on field testing over years, and watching many thousands of our own plants devoured by deer, this mix is composed of species that deer mostly leave alone, or flat out do not

We’ve gotten so many requests over the years for an easy-to-grow seed mix that defies deer, that we finally had to dig in and create one.

For a full disclaimer, deer will nip, taste, and browse a huge range of plants, including many of the ones included in this mix. However, based on field testing over years, and watching many thousands of our own plants devoured by deer, this mix is composed of species that deer mostly leave alone, or flat out do not like after a single taste.

And yet, these are also some of our showiest, easiest-to-establish species, and ones that still support an amazing abundance and diversity of wildlife (just not deer!).

We’ve aimed for a balance of species that can survive everything from damp to rather dry sites, but everything in this mix does indeed need full sun to prosper. If you’ve got a shaded site with heavy deer pressure, consider something like ferns or salal.

One notable inclusion in this mix is Coastal poppy. We’ve heard countless debates, discussions, and speculations about how far north the actual native range of this plant is. (With various arguments ranging from it stopping at the Oregon border, to other claims that it historically occurred all the way north to southern Alaska!). While there are Pacific Northwest records of the plant at least as far back as the 1800s, we simply don’t know. What we do know is: 1) It does occur wildly in some interesting regional places where it seems rather implausible for someone to have planted it, including coastal bluffs, and cliff embankments in the Columbia gorge, 2) It naturalizes nicely without ever becoming invasive in our region and extends the bloomtime much later into the season than most other wildflowers, and 3) It is a ridiculously great bumble bee plant, attracting many different bumble bee species, not just common ones like the yellow-faced bumble bee (Bombus vosenesenkii). All of these factors make it a very attractive and effective complement to this deer-resistant seed mix.

Here’s the full package:

Cheap looking and extremely wide
Looks and feels cheap, made with cheap materials. The shoe is so wide, and even though it has laces that could be pulled tight, there's no way to tie them off and make the shoe fit. The color was exactly as pictured. I had to return them because they flopped around on my feet making them unwearable.

True to size
Size: 9.5, Color: Tusk
I want to start off by saying I ordered a 9 and 1/2 and these fit perfectly so they are true to size. They are fairly comfortable in the heel isn't too high but is wide so they're very stable to walk in. They look great and can be styled in a variety of ways I have worn them with jeans but also a nice sundress and it works both ways. I've been wearing these for several months and they've held up really well and still look great.

Daughter ranks it 5/5. I rank them 4/5 due to heel comfort.
Size: 8, Color: Black, Size: 8, Color: Black
My foot is 9.44 inches long which usually places me in a 7.5. For this chart, it suggested the size 8. It's a perfect fit. The back zipper is easy enough to use. You don't even really need to undo the top strap once you have it adjusted to your preferred spot. My foot is narrow to normal around the heel and I'm wider in the toe box. These heels accommodate that well. I have plenty of room around my toes. The toe strap isn't smashing down either. The shoes seems well-made. The straps do not have a threads hanging. There's no sloppy glue drips around the bed. The bottom is strong and the heel is solid. I'm not a huge fan of thicker/chunky heel looks usually. I like the skinner heel styles mostly but ... there's a big positive to the chunky heels. They're very easy to walk in. Great heels for non-formal occasions. The bottom is not slippery. The cushioning around the toes in very nice. My only complaint is that the cushioning by the heel feels inadequate- especially at this price. It feels like you're walking on a block of wood. For that reason, I gave them to my middle schooler. She's thrilled. She pranced around the house in them testing them out for herself. She adjusted well to walking in them and she finds them comfy.

Lucky Brand womens Herrika
Size: 9, Color: Smoke Grey
These shoes are some of the comfiest heels I've ever worn! The heel actually has a nice height to it, but it's at a gentle slope that feels very comfortable. The heel itself is thicker, which makes it easier to walk, and I love the ankle strap for added security. The shoe's construction is solid, the materials are durable, and the zipper at the back of the ankle moves smoothly. I got the smoke grey color, which I think is really more of a lighter skin tone color, so I don't really agree with the name, but the color is accurately represented by the photos on the product page. This is a great neutral shoe that will pair with many different outfits. It's high quality and versatile, so I think it's well worth the cost. I love my new shoes!
