Pearl Weed Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is Pearl Weed hard to grow?
No, Pearl Weed is not hard to grow. In fact, it’s considered one of the easiest freshwater aquarium plants for both beginners and experienced aquascapers. Pearl Weed aquarium plants adapt well to a wide range of conditions, including low-tech setups without CO₂.
Can Pearl Weed grow floating?
Yes, Pearl Weed can grow floating in aquariums. When left floating, it absorbs nutrients directly from the water column and continues to grow healthy stems and leaves. Floating Pearl Weed provides shade, helps reduce algae, and offers excellent cover for fry and shrimp. However, if you want to use Pearl Weed as a carpet or bushy plant, planting it in substrate and trimming regularly will give better structure and density.
How to fertilize Pearl Weed?
To keep Pearl Weed lush and vibrant, fertilize it 1–2 times per week using a quality liquid aquarium fertilizer containing essential micronutrients. Since Hemianthus micranthemoides feeds mainly from the water column, liquid fertilizers are more effective than root tabs. In high-light or fast-growing setups, consistent fertilization helps prevent yellowing leaves and supports dense, compact growth. CO₂ is optional but can further enhance growth speed and leaf size.
