Aglaonema 'Beauty' is a striking cultivar of Aglaonema, a genus known for its lush foliage and adaptability to indoor environments. This particular variety is cherished for its vibrant, colourful leaves that display a combination of rich reds, pinks, and greens. Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, Aglaonema thrives in warm, humid environments, making it an excellent houseplant.
Young plants may show little red at first, with the colour becoming stronger and more defined as the leaves mature.
Distinctive Features
- Dazzling Foliage: Aglaonema 'Beauty' is known for its bright red or pink-hued leaves, often bordered by contrasting green speckles, making it a standout among indoor plants.
- Compact Growth: It maintains a bushy, low-growing habit, making it ideal for tabletops, shelves, or small spaces.
- Low Maintenance: Like other Aglaonema varieties, it is forgiving of neglect and can adapt to various indoor conditions.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions.
- Water: Allow the top layer of soil to dry out between watering. Overwatering may lead to root rot.
- Humidity: Thrives in high humidity but can adapt to average household humidity levels.
- Media: A well-draining potting mix with peat or perlite works best.
- Temperature: Keep temperatures between 18°C - 27°C; avoid exposure to cold drafts.
- Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years to refresh the soil and encourage continued growth.
Additional Notes
- Toxicity: Like many Aglaonema species, it contains calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic if ingested by pets or humans.
