Purple Joy Tropical Water Lily

The Purple Joy Water Lily is a spectacular tropical day-bloomer that brings elegance and drama to any pond. Its petals are crisp white at the base, gradually transitioning into deep purple tips—a stunning two-tone combination that looks almost hand-painted. This vigorous, award-winning hybrid was created by renowned Thai hybridizer Ao Weerada of Bu Fah Garden, and it has become a favorite among collectors worldwide. With its prolific flowering and bold coloring, Purple Joy Water Lily is perfect for water gardeners who want a true statement piece.

As a vigorous bloomer, Purple Joy thrives in warm water and abundant sunlight. Its flowers stand proudly above the water, offering continuous color throughout the growing season. Ideal for medium to large ponds or planted containers, this tropical water lily rewards consistent feeding and full sun exposure with a show of endless blossoms.

🌱 Planting & Care Instructions

  • Purple Joy Water Lily Size: Medium to large tropical variety

  • Purple Joy Water Lily Spread: 4–6 feet (larger with heavy feeding)

  • Purple Joy Water Lily Container Size: 2-gallon or larger wide, shallow fabric pond pots

  • Purple Joy Water Lily Depth: Best blooming at 6–16 inches below the water surface; tolerates 24–30 inches with fewer flowers

  • Soil: Heavy loam soil only (avoid bagged compost mixes, which rot underwater)

  • Fertilizing Purple Joy Water Lily: Fertilize consistently with 3–4 Waterlily World Fertilizer Tablets on the 1st and 15th of each month during the growing season

  • Fragrance: Light, sweet fragrance

  • Winter Hardiness: Zones 9–12 (annual in cooler regions)

  • Temperature Needs: Water should remain 65°F+ at night and 75–80°F+ during the day for steady growth and flowering

💡 PondMegastore Tip: Tropical water lilies like Purple Joy need full sun (5+ hours daily) and warm water to bloom heavily—don’t set them out too early in northern climates.

✅ Do’s & ❌ Don’ts for Purple Joy Water Lily

Do’s
✅ Plant in a 2-gallon or larger fabric pond pot
✅ Use heavy loam soil for proper nutrition and anchoring
✅ Fertilize twice monthly with 3–4 tablets
✅ Place crown so it rests 6–16 inches deep for best flowering
✅ Ensure warm water (75–80°F+) and direct sunlight for strong blooming

Don’ts
❌ Don’t use bagged potting soil (compost will rot underwater)
❌ Don’t bury the growing point—keep it exposed to sunlight
❌ Don’t add stone or gravel on top of soil—this often causes plant mortality
❌ Don’t expect blooming in shade or indoors—sunlight is mandatory
❌ Don’t plant too deep (over 24 inches) unless you’re okay with fewer flowers

Longtime Ironman Wearer -- I Hate This Watch
Color: Black
I've worn the old Ironman 100 Lap Watch for Years I would still be wearing those watches if the Indigo on them didn't consistently fail. My main requisite is large, easy to read digital display, and the ability to turn the Indiglo on 20 seconds a day once or twice to see time in dark. If I could have found a simple watch with a large display made by any other reputable manufacturer I would have bought it instead. I have truly come to dislike Timex because their Indiglo fails so consistently, on (5) different Ironman's I've owned. Doubt this one'll be any better, viewing it a disposable purchase after a year. Unsurprisingly, Timex is an American company, all marketing no quality, and yes I'm an American, looking at something Casio Seiko, Swiss or Japanese made. They get fundamentals right in terms of quality. The band on this is redesigned. Grippier. Tougher to adjust or put on, but more apt to stay on and not slide once on. I'm used to the old band, don't love or hate this new one. I will usually take my watch off while typing for a long time, not as easy to do with this, not a dealbreaker, can see the sense in making a swimming and exercise watchband a bit tougher. I hate the branding on this watch. Bright red Ironman logo on both ends of the band near the watch. Even worse is the Timex and Ironman words ATOP the glass on the watch. This means they throw shadows down onto the watch face below the glass. This effect gets even worse with the magnification underwater. Inexcusable design flaw, simply so some corporation can self-advertise its products. The combination of these two sets of branding make the watch look cheap, gaudy, and inappropriate for any remotely formal wearing. This would not have been the case if it was understated in color scheme. Without the two red marks on the band, and the absolutely moronic decision to place the branding on the watch glass, you have something understated you could get away wearing all the time. Not with the branding. There are also two lines running horizontally above and below the time. I hate these when I'm looking at it underwater. Haven't tried the lap functions yet, I usually open lake swim, maybe the lines help with that, but for my use I hate them. I'm 6'4" tall, people complain the watch is big, it feels to me if anything a bit undersized or the proper size, others may find it big. I would rather have a slightly larger size with bigger numbers. Biggest plus is time SUPER easy to read. I'd love to be able to turn date off and only have time display and nothing else in some mode. I don't need to check the date 6 times a day. Love to have mode where I press one button, upper left say, and date shows for five seconds or something. Indiglo about the same as old big Ironman 100, excellent--when it doesn't break which it almost always does. I have many of these watches where the time still shows but Indiglo never works, Timex themselves admitted to me this is a known problem. The rounder face, versus rectangular, better looks, but wonder if it is optimal way to make most readable. I would pass on this watch. I have always liked Ironman watches, but the branding is so bad, glass especially, and the absymal quality of Timex Indiglo, are unacceptable.

Cool & functional
Color: Pink
Attractive watch. Simplistic, yet cannot understand everything without not having instructions. Watch did no come with instructions, which became hard to figure out all its functions.

Excellent watch
Color: Black, Gray
Great watch. Waterproof and I use the timer all the time. I'm on my 3rd or 4th one over 20 to 25 years. When the battery dies, I just buy another one because at that point in time the band is usually also going bad.

Rugged Watch at Good Price
Color: Black, Gray
I originally wanted a G-Shock but I have a small wrist and G-Shocks come with cases that are too big for my 6.1 inch wrist. An alternative? I bought the Timex Ironman. It has a rugged look and many of the features of a G-Shock but at a lower price. Small wrist? Or don't want to spend the money for a G-Shock? This is your best bet.
