Lobelia cardinalis, or Cardinal Flower, is a perennial known for its brilliant red, tubular flowers that bloom from mid-summer to early fall. Growing 2 to 4 feet tall, Cardinal Flower thrives in moist to wet soils and is often found along streams, ponds, or rain gardens.
This moisture-loving plant attracts hummingbirds and butterflies, making it an essential part of any wildlife-friendly garden. Cardinal Flower prefers full sun to partial shade, especially in hotter climates. Cold stratification is required for successful seed germination.
Beyond its beauty, Lobelia cardinalis was historically used by Native Americans to treat stomach ailments and pain. It is perfect for adding color to moist areas where few other plants thrive while supporting pollinators.
