Euphorbia aeruginosa, also known as Miniature Saguaro or Verdigris Spiny Milkweed, is a fascinating succulent native to South Africa. It is a dwarf shrub with striking features, making it a popular choice for succulent enthusiasts.

Key Characteristics:

  • Appearance: Forms bushy clumps of bluish-gray or copper-green stems that are often spirally twisted. These stems are lined with sharp, reddish-brown spines. The specific epithet "aeruginosa" meaning "rusty, covered with copper rust" refers to the color of the stems.
  • Size: Typically grows to about 1 foot (30 cm) tall.
  • Flowers: Produces small, bright yellow flowers (cyathia) in late winter or early spring at the branch tips.
  • Growth: Relatively easy to grow and can be quite fast-growing with ample light.
  • Light and Temperature: Prefers bright, indirect light or morning sun; avoid intense afternoon sun which can bleach the plant. Requires warm temperatures and is not cold-hardy, needing protection from frost (below 40°F / 5°C).
  • Watering: As a drought-tolerant succulent, it requires moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
  • Soil: Thrives in a well-draining soil mix, like a cactus or succulent potting mix, amended with sand or pumice for improved drainage.
  • Toxicity: Like all members of the Euphorbia genus, it contains a milky white sap (latex) that is poisonous and can irritate skin and eyes. Handle with care and keep out of reach of children and pets.

Important Notes:

  • Varieties: Three varieties are recognized: minor, major, and nova, differing in size and spine characteristics.
  • Dormancy: Goes dormant in the winter.
  • Propagation: Can be propagated from stem cuttings.
  • Potential Problems: Susceptible to root rot if overwatered.

In summary, Euphorbia aeruginosa is a visually appealing and relatively low-maintenance succulent that adds a touch of unique beauty to gardens or indoor spaces, provided its light, watering, and temperature needs are met, and its toxic sap is handled cautiously.

Small typos
Format: Paperback
It's a pretty good book, however I am finding quite a lot of typos, and editing errors, one in particular was on page 101 The review questions don't match the review answers, had to edit a lot of it by hand.
