How to Grow Muskmelon from Seeds

  • Sowing Time: February to June (hot/warm climate)
  • Sowing Method: Direct sowing in ground or grow bags
  • Soil: Well-drained, sandy loam soil rich in organic matter
  • pH Range: 6.0 to 7.5
  • Spacing: 45–60 cm between plants; 1–1.5 m between rows
  • Sowing Depth: 1–2 cm deep
  • Sunlight: 6–8 hours of direct sun daily

Care and Maintenance

  • Support: Use mulch or straw under fruits to prevent rot and pests
  • Fertilizer: Add compost or cow dung at sowing; apply organic liquid fertilizer or NPK 10:26:26 during flowering
  • Pollination: Hand-pollinate flowers if natural pollination is low (early morning is best)
  • Pest Control: Use neem spray or organic pesticide for aphids and powdery mildew
  • Harvesting: Fruit is ready when it has a strong aroma, yellowish base color, and slips off easily from the stem

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Can muskmelon grow in pots?
Yes, muskmelon can be grown in large grow bags (minimum 18-inch depth) with proper support and spacing for the vine to trail or climb.

Q2: Why are my muskmelon fruits not developing?
Lack of pollination is a common reason. Use a brush to transfer pollen from male to female flowers manually.

Q3: How many fruits can one muskmelon plant yield?
On average, a plant can produce 2–5 good-sized fruits, depending on care and variety.

Q4: When should muskmelon be harvested?
When the fruit changes color at the base, gives off a sweet fragrance, and detaches easily from the stem with a slight tug.

Q5: Can muskmelon grow in rainy season?
No, excessive moisture and cloudy conditions are not ideal. Watermelons prefer dry, warm climates to thrive and produce sweet fruit.

Conclusion: Muskmelon is a juicy, healthy fruit perfect for home gardeners. With proper sunlight, space, and care, you can enjoy chemical-free harvests in just a few months. Great for summer hydration and family snacks!

Very soft and the matching backing is nice
The blanket is great quality with no smells. It’s thick and cozy. We like the matching backing. Unfortunately, I should have measured because this barely covers a queen bed despite the heading product description “queen size”. I still haven’t heard back whether they use harsh chemicals when processing. Overall, it feels great to support companies that use natural products with (hopefully) low to no harmful chemicals.

Works for Sherpa, and heavy rugs
This worked on my 2 Sherpa jackets and a heavy furred rug. I tested it on my old Sherpa jacket that had the furs pretty much flat after years. I used this on it which took about 3 hrs to do and it feels brand new. I was so shocked that I used it on my old rug that had about an inch length in fur. The fur was all tangled so it had little stalks sticking out. After about 6-7 hrs, the rug was straight up rejuvenated felt brand new. I’m was very pleased with this product. Now, the real question is it worth it? I’ll just tell my opinion from my experience and let you decide for yourself. The product itself feels sturdy with a wooden base. It’s around 6 and a half inches so not very big. (This is one of the reasons why the rug too so long.)The metal brushed was surprisingly durable. I was applying a good amount of force when combing my rug and there were no bending. For 14 dollars and some elbow grease, I got two new jackets and a rug. The brush didn’t break so I can just keep using this to maintain. In my books, I got my moneys worth.

It Works!
A small size but fits my hand and really does the job well. I have two sherpa blankets that the fibers are matted down from the dryer (should have air dryed) and this brush glides through the fibers, does require some effort but well worth it as I get instant results of the before and after. So far, brush is intact and handling the job, one larger and one smaller blanket to go and both sides. Very happy with purchase!

LL Bean slippers
Larger than it looks, but still small enough to fit into my LL Bean Wicked Good Slippers. Let's me comb out the shearling to keep it soft and pretty.
