🌿 Upright foliage marbled green and silver • ☀️ Bright light to partial shade • 💧 Low watering • 🌱 Ultra easy

The Sansevieria Zeylanica, also called Mother-in-law's tongue, stands out from other Sansevierias by its irregular green and silver marbled patterns — a wilder, more natural foliage than varieties with regular edges like Laurentii or Whitney. Native to the arid tropical zones of Africa and South Asia, it naturally grows in rocky and dry areas. Discover our entire Sansevieria collection and our guide to 10 easy-care plants.

Robust, adaptable, and nearly indestructible, it suits both apartments and offices, even those with low light. Our guide to plants for dark rooms explains how to best place it.

Exposure & location

The Sansevieria Zeylanica adapts to almost all light conditions — from full sun to pronounced partial shade. It is one of the few plants to maintain its marbled patterns even in low-light rooms.

  • Exposure: bright light to partial shade — tolerates low light, avoid total darkness.
  • Ideal for: living room, entrance, bedroom, office, dimly lit hallway.
  • Temperature: 15 to 28 °C, no cold drafts.
  • Substrate: light and very well-draining — cactus soil with sand or perlite.

Watering & care

  • Watering: low — every 2 to 3 weeks in spring-summer, let the substrate dry completely between waterings. Our finger test is the most reliable method for this type of plant.
  • Drainage: essential — pot with drainage holes, very well-draining substrate, never let water stagnate in the saucer.
  • Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, mild fertilizer for green plants in light doses.
  • Cleaning: wipe leaves with a damp cloth to preserve the shine of the marbled patterns.
  • Repotting: only every 3 to 4 years — it likes to be a bit cramped.

Decor ideas & plant combinations

Its irregular marbled patterns give it a more natural and less graphic look than other Sansevierias — it fits equally well in a minimalist decor or a more organic plant arrangement.

  • In a graphic trio with no maintenance: pair it with a Zamioculcas and a bright silver Sansevieria Moonshine — three ultra-easy plants, three different textures, same minimal watering logic.
  • In a Sansevieria collection: pair it with the Sansevieria Laurentii with golden edges — the marbled patterns of the Zeylanica and the regular edges of the Laurentii create a contrasting duo in the same style.
  • Decorative pot: a matte ceramic, natural terracotta, or light concrete pot highlights the marbled patterns without competing with them.

Verdeia tips

  • Water less than you think: root rot from overwatering is the only real danger for this plant — wait until the substrate is completely dry throughout before watering again.
  • Rotate the pot regularly: monthly rotation ensures symmetrical growth — without it, leaves lean toward the light and the shape gradually distorts.
  • Ideal for difficult spaces: dark hallway, windowless office, dimly lit entrance — the Sansevieria Zeylanica tolerates conditions where most plants would wither.

Nice looking medium sized backpack purse
Color: Pink
Although it says nylon in the description, mine is a soft pleather in a soft pink color. Although it has a lot of pockets for storage, it isn't large capacity. It is good for a wallet, phone, water bottle, sandwich, perhaps a cosmetic bag, and that's about it. I do not like pink accessories but this is a creamy light tone of pink and looks nice. The straps are adjustable and very comfortable in the same padded pleather. Lightweight.

Great to take on a trip
Color: Black
We love to cruise and always take an extra backpack with us so we can load up on the travel booty and have a place to put it. Works well as your "one plus" item on the airlines. So the quality on this backpack is just fine. No issues at all. Nothing was falling apart or coming off. Very small when you fold it up which is great for packing in your suitcase. Holds a ton of stuff.... I'd do some shopping to make sure this fits your needs. There are a ton of backpack's in this price range and some appear to have more features.... Also looks... some are cooler looking, but that's just my opinion...even though I'm right... This will do well for you as others will do too... You get a 30 day return policy with this so you could try it out first to see if you like it... if not, return it... nothing to loose...

Decent basic backpack
Color: Green
This is a good, basic backpack. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but it's a solid choice. The sizing is average, it will hold several books and notebooks. The padding felt adequate for most items, but I'm not sure how much I would trust it with an expensive Mac book. The straps were easy to adjust and padded enough. I appreciate that it could be folded up and put into another bag if you needed an extra bag while traveling - it would make a good day pack. Overall a good deal for what it is.

Sturdy, attractive, comfortable, large capacity; lightweight, back strap to fit luggage
Color: Green, Color: Green
There are several good features for this BAGOK Lightweight Nylon Backpack, starting with the attractive green color that I chose. It is light weight and foldable yet has lots of pockets. The stitching is good, and the zippers work nicely. The back adjustable straps have padding and netting for cooling. There is also a handle on top for carrying and a backstrap to fit over luggage. On the front, there are two zippered compartments. The small one at the top could hold a wallet or passport or tickets. The larger front pocket is roomy with the zipper under an overhanging fabric. Inside is lined with black nylon. The frontmost large compartment extends the length and width of the backpack. The larger main compartment is at the back and has padding to safely store a laptop, e reader or other electronics. There are two nylon pockets inside the main compartment on one side. There are two outer side pockets. I was able to fit a water bottle in them when the inside was empty. However, if the entire backpack is filled, I don't think a water bottle will fit. One drawback is the side pockets are not elasticized--they don't stretch. I will use this for day trips and travel. It is too large to be a personal item on airlines, but it could be a carryon. You can get a lot of things in it. The nylon material is sturdy and should stand up to wear. I am short, 5'2" female and I could adjust the straps to be comfortable for me. And it does fold up for storage between uses. This could also withstand daily use for hiking, work or school
