Kabocha Squash is an open-pollinated variety that is hailed by many as one of the best-tasting squash of all time. Not only does the yellow/orange flesh have a wonderful nutty, sweet flavor but the dark emerald skin is also edible. This Japanese pumpkin is a prolific early maturing variety that produces 3-4 lb. fruits on sprawling vines. The oblong fruits are ready to be harvested once the skin turns dark emerald green and is firm to the touch. Kabocha should be cured either on the vine for 10 days or in a climate-controlled room for 4 to 5 days for maximum flavor. If cured properly, these winter squash can be stored for up to 6 months. Cucurbita Maxima. 95 Days To Maturity.

Winter Squash may be direct-seeded or transplanted, although we highly recommend direct seeding. To ensure a good stand, we recommend planting Seeds every 12″ along the intended row. Once plants emerge, thin plants to one every 2 feet. Winter Squash can be susceptible to plant diseases like downy mildew and powdery mildew if leaves receive excess moisture. As a result, we recommend using drip irrigation on winter squash to reduce plant moisture and feed plants more effectively. During periods of heavy rainfall, using a fungicide like Liquid Copper can help to alleviate disease pressure as well.

Winter Squash is a crop that will produce a one-time harvest at the end of the growing season. They should be harvested when plants die back and the fruits obtain their full color. Stem hardness is also an indication of fruit maturity. Once stems harden, fruits are ready for harvest using a set of pruning shears. Winter Squash can be stored in a cool, dry place for several months, depending on variety and sugar content. Once fruits are harvested, remove the plants from the garden to prevent any fungal spores from overwintering and becoming a problem in future years. Proper crop rotation is extremely important with all pumpkin varieties to reduce disease and pest pressure.

Feeling Inspired!
Format: Paperback
Reading "The Way of Love" has inspired and encouraged me as I plan for my first (solo) Camino. I thank Angela Leslee for being unafraid to bare all the emotions in her book: the joys, victories, setbacks, disappointments, and pain. It's evident that "The Way of Love" was a labor of love as page after page recounts the 500 miles she walked! I told the author in an email that, in September, when I walk my Camino, I'll be sure to be up and out on the trail "...before sunrise when the yellow street lights cast their magical glow." Can't wait to experience that! "The Way of Love" -- easy to read and enjoy.

the good, the bad, the funny, the reality
Format: Kindle
A great memoir of an “older” woman walking the Camino de Santiago alone. Alone but with many friendships along the way.

An Honest Tale
Format: Kindle
When someone you know writes a heart-felt story of a journey of self-discovery, it's startling to realize how little you knew of their self. Walking the Camino across Spain in 40 days of pain and revelations, Angela takes us on an epic journey into her soul. She marvels, delights, laughs, and cries at the breath-taking scenery, the scents of forests and fields of flowers and grasses, the fellow pilgrims she meets and re-encounters across the 40 days. Day by day we travel with her. Her account of everyday life on the journey is vivid. I recommend this book to everyone who has been, or wants to go, on a voyage of self-examination, who wants to question why they are living in the way they are. Maybe life could be different, if one took time to try a different way.

Compelling!
Format: Paperback
I loved this book. It is a personal, honest, beautiful account of walking the Camino, and I didn’t want it to end. The actual reality of walking the Camino is aptly portrayed in this open-hearted story. Angela’s unique turn of phrase, her outrageous humor, her vulnerability, the unrelenting pain, and the lessons learned are beautifully expressed, and are a testament to her endurance and to her Love. Angela has the true heart of a pilgrim, showing us that seeing with eyes of Love is all that matters. Bronwen Diana

Enjoyable and Uplifting
Format: Kindle
After reading this book, it came to me that this is different and maybe far more uplifting than the prior books I’ve read. It should have been my first book to read but alas, I’ve been reading about the Camino for over a decade. I enjoyed Angel’s perspective on the Camino but also how it affected her life. If you’ve ever considered the Camino, read this one before you go, and then GO!
