The Philodendron Strawberry Shake is the ultimate crown jewel for rare aroid collectors. A breathtaking chimeric mutation of the classic Philodendron erubescens, this vining masterpiece is famous for its triangular, spade-shaped leaves splashed with a dramatic cocktail of variegation. Each leaf emerges completely uniquely, displaying striking patches of deep forest green, mint, bright orange, pale cream, and its namesake soft strawberry pink, all held up by brilliant ruby-red stems.

Unlike some delicate rare plants, the Strawberry Shake is surprisingly resilient and a relatively eager grower once established. As a natural hemiepiphyte, it desperately wants to climb. Given the right support, the leaves will dramatically increase in size, and the incredible mosaic of colors will only become more vibrant and pronounced, making it a spectacular focal point for any indoor jungle.

The Magic of Unstable Variegation The stunning colors of the Strawberry Shake are naturally occurring and entirely unpredictable. No two leaves will ever be the same! Some leaves may emerge highly mottled with pinks and creams, while others may be half-moon, or mostly green with tiny specks. This continuous element of surprise is exactly what makes growing this plant so incredibly rewarding.
Give It a Pole to Climb! To unlock the full potential of this Philodendron, you must give it something to climb. Providing a sturdy moss pole, coco coir pole, or wooden trellis allows the plant's aerial roots to latch on. This vertical support signals to the plant that it is secure, encouraging it to produce massive, heavily variegated mature foliage.
Caution: Toxic to Pets Like all Philodendrons, the Strawberry Shake contains calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing or ingesting the leaves or stems can cause severe mouth irritation, drooling, and stomach upset in cats, dogs, and humans. Please keep this rare beauty out of reach of curious pets and toddlers.
☀️

Light

Light is the absolute key to maintaining those beautiful pink and orange splashes. It requires very bright, indirect sunlight to keep its variegation strong. If the light is too low, the plant will revert to green to produce more chlorophyll to survive. A spot near an east-facing window with gentle morning sun is perfect. However, avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun, as the lighter variegated patches lack protective pigments and will scorch easily.

💧

Watering

This aroid prefers to dry out partially between waterings. Allow the top 50% to 75% of the soil to dry completely before giving it a thorough soak. Ensure water runs out of the drainage holes and never leave the plant sitting in a saucer of water, as the thick roots are highly susceptible to root rot if left suffocating in mud.

💦

Humidity

Hailing originally from tropical rainforest environments, it thrives in high humidity (60% or higher). While it can adapt to average household humidity, pushing the humidity up with a humidifier will keep those highly variegated leaf sections plump, crisp, and free from brown, dry edges.

🌿

Growing Media

A chunky, ultra-well-draining aroid mix is absolutely critical. Do not use straight indoor potting soil. Create a mix using equal parts high-quality potting soil, orchid bark, coarse perlite, and a handful of horticultural charcoal or coco chips. This ensures the roots have plenty of oxygen even after a deep watering.

🌾

Feeding

Feed every two to three weeks during the active growing season (spring and summer) using a balanced, high-quality liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Variegated plants often need a bit of a nutritional boost to grow vigorously since they have less chlorophyll-producing green tissue.

Common Issues & Quick Fixes

Reverting (Losing Variegation)

If your new leaves are emerging entirely green, the plant either needs significantly more bright, indirect light, or the variegation gene has naturally stabilized to green. Move it closer to a light source. If it pushes out 3 or 4 completely green leaves in a row, you may need to cleanly prune the stem back down to the last node that showed good variegation on the stem itself to force a new, variegated growth point.

Brown, Crispy Spots on Variegation

The pink and cream sections of the leaf do not photosynthesize and are naturally much weaker than the green sections. If the air is too dry, or if the plant is exposed to direct, hot sunlight, these sections will be the first to crisp up and turn brown. Increase ambient humidity and ensure the light is bright but filtered.

Yellowing Lower Leaves

Occasional yellowing of the oldest, bottom-most leaf is a normal part of the plant's life cycle. However, if multiple lower leaves are turning yellow simultaneously and the soil feels heavy and wet, it is a definitive sign of overwatering or a soil mix that is not draining fast enough.

Burns My Eyes
If your eyes have a sensitivity to sunscreen, they may have a sensitivity to this one. This product made my eyes burn for two days, with multiple washings. I have had problems with La Roche Posay sunscreen — if that is a helpful association. It has dimethicone —a silicone— in it (which might be the irritant). Its common in beauty products but some people avoid it for various reasons. If you have no sensitivities and don’t mind the silicone, then it could be an acceptable option for the value. It went on smooth and light, left no cast, and had a very mild scent. I will use it on my limbs, but I can’t use this on my face.

WORKS! LIGHT! EASY TO APPLY AND USE!
Took and trip and knew I would be out in the sun. I know this is for the face, but I used on my arms, legs and face. It is light and easy to apply. Not sticky and heavy as some sunblocks can be. I am very pleased with this purchase/find, as it works well and was a fabulous price for this tube.

Lightweight, Smooth, and Truly Unscented — My New Go-To Sunscreen
Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50
This is the first time I tried this Banana Boat unscented sunscreen, and I’m genuinely impressed. One of the biggest things I look for in sunscreen is how it feels on the skin, and this one delivers—it’s not sticky at all and goes on very smooth. It’s easy to apply and absorbs quickly without leaving that heavy, greasy feeling. I also really appreciate that it’s unscented. There’s no strong or unpleasant smell, which makes it much more comfortable to use daily. I’ve used other brands before, like Neutrogena and some higher-priced options, but honestly, this one stands out. It performs just as well—if not better—at a more reasonable price. Overall, this is a great sunscreen that I’ll definitely keep using. Highly recommended if you want something lightweight, smooth, and fragrance-free.

BEST sunscreen on the market
Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50
This sunscreen is truly the best sunscreen on the market. I have now bought 4 bottles, and plan to purchase more. It is extremely milky, dissolves onto the skin perfectly, it feels like you arent wearing any sunscreen at all. I tell everyone I know about this product. I also purchase the FACE spf which is even more smooth. I wish they sold this in a giant container, because I apply this everyday !! This sunscreen has made it more accessible for me to apply sunscreen daily, it also has very minimal scent, and never burns your eyes. Personally I will never buy another type of sunscreen again after this sunscreen.

Good for acne prone sensitive skin
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50
I am in my 30s with combo leaning oil and acne prone fair skin with pigmentation issues and I’m on prescription tretinoin every day. I sometimes use hydroquinone when my pigmentation issues flare up. I wear sunscreen every single day to protect my skin. It’s especially important since I’m on Tret. daily. Being that I have acne prone skin finding a sunscreen has always been a HUGE challenge for me. I’ve spent so much time on SkinSort and similar sites looking through sunscreen ingredients lists trying to find ones that won’t break me out. I’ve purchased PLENTY of k-beauty, j-beauty, EU sunscreens and Us sunscreens from Sephora and drugstore only for them to break me out. My skin is very sensitive/breakout prone to long ingredients lists, emollients, heavy textures, oils and lots of botanicals. I randomly stumbled upon this banana boat sunscreen here on Amazon and saw the short and fairly simple ingredient list that is low (not free of- but low) in occlusive ingredients in comparison to other sunscreens so I decided to order it. It has not broken me out and it feels nice. No alcohol in it, no irritation, no pimples so far. The tube is user friendly, the texture is light and pleasant and the sunscreen is affordable and accessible. I also appreciate how it’s water resistant so can be worn every day OR pool/beach. I highly recommend this to anyone with acne prone or sensitive skin if you are ok with US chemical sunscreens. I prefer chemical sunscreens over mineral sunscreens as mineral sunscreens break me out. This affordable banana boat in my opinion is WAY better for me personally than high end and expensive options that have tons of pore clogging ingredients. Yes even the popular k-beauty sunscreens break me out unfortunately. Everyone is different and anything has a potential to clog someone but for me this sunscreen is way more safe for my acne prone skin than any other sunscreen option I’ve come across. The majority of sunscreens are just packed with pore cloggers, but this banana boat one is minimal in comparison. The tube is travel size (tsa approved) but bigger than your standard 1.7oz sunscreen. This is nice for me because like I mentioned I wear sunscreen every single day and re-apply if I’ll be outside in the sun. While spending time outside I did not burn while wearing this sunscreen and I’m extremely fair skinned. I also did not notice any new pigmentation issues. The texture is nice, light and pleasant. It wears well under makeup. I normally wash my face in the AM, apply a hydrating kbeauty toner, tiny little dots of super light gel moisturizer (not much- I’m oily!) and then apply this banana boat sunscreen on top. Sometimes I wear makeup sometimes I don’t. It works both ways. I have not experienced any pilling. I have not noticed any scent with this sunscreen other than the sunscreen filters smell which isn’t too bad at all in comparison to other sunscreens I’ve tried. The sunscreen itself adds a touch of moisture but I don’t find it to be greasy on my oily skin. In the summer I will probably use a hydrating toner or serum (skip gel moisturizer) and then apply the banana boat sunscreen since I live in a warm climate. Anyways, this is a very nice textured non offensive not overly clogging (for me at least) Us chemical sunscreen that has been very unproblematic for me. I just apply a decent amount every AM and don’t even think about it. Like I mentioned if I’m out in direct sunlight (normally I’m not in the winter) I’ll reapply as needed. In the PM I use bioderma micellar water and then follow it with my Remedy brand face cleanser and it takes the banana boat off fine. I’m interested in trying the spray version (always spray decent amount into hand and then apply!) for my body in the summer. For now I apply this banana boat sensitive face to my face, neck, hands or whatever exposed area. If you tried the banana boat light as air face spf that one is a little more matte and dry but it’s also more pore clogging in both my experience and by ingredients lists. This banana boat sensitive has a bit of a different texture that’s lightweight and still not greasy but it’s more of a traditional light lotion. The banana boat light as air face one felt great but over time gave me more closed comedones. Needless to say I highly recommend this lightweight Us chemical sunscreen to anyone looking for a simple waterproof Us chemical sunscreen that is affordable and easy. Obviously no white cast as its chemical. Sorry for the long review but it might help someone out. Also I purchased this with my own money I am not a part of one of those product reviewing groups- whatever they are called. No shade to anyone lol.
