Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde'

Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde' is a robust climbing aroid grown for long, narrow leaves marked with irregular green and pale mottling. The pattern is usually streaked rather than blocky, so each leaf develops its own balance of lime, olive, deeper green and lighter markings. Mature growth can look much larger and more elongated than juvenile plants, especially when the stem is allowed to climb.

It develops a vining stem with nodes, aerial roots and leaves that size up best when they can attach to support. With maturity, the plant becomes a clearly vertical climber with longer supported growth.

Narrow mottled blades and a robust climbing habit

  • Stem behaviour: Climbing growth with aerial roots and longer internodes than self-heading Philodendron.
  • Leaf shape: Narrowly oblong to triangular blades that can become larger and more defined with maturity.
  • Colour pattern: Irregular green and pale mottling with natural variation between leaves.
  • Support response: A pole or plank encourages stronger leaf size and a tidier vertical plant.

Belém provenance and mature vine growth

Philodendron sp. 'Paraiso Verde' is linked to Mr Natalino’s nursery in Belém and was named by Chandra G. Hendarto. The plant is described as a robust, probably hemi-epiphytic Philodendron with narrow mottled green and white leaf blades, undulating margins and mild quilting along the midrib.

Young plants may produce smaller, slimmer leaves, while supported mature stems can develop longer blades with clearer venation and stronger climbing rhythm.

The mottling can vary between individual plants and leaves, with a changing pattern across new blades as the stem develops.

Care for long, mottled Paraiso Verde leaves

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light. The long leaves scorch in direct midday sun, while very low light can produce stretched stems and smaller growth.
  • Watering: Let the upper substrate dry before watering again. Water deeply, then allow excess water to drain fully from the pot.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky aroid mix that holds some moisture while leaving air around the roots. Bark, pumice, perlite, coco chips and coarse organic matter suit the climbing root system.
  • Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity supports smoother leaf expansion. Use a humidifier or plant grouping if indoor air is very dry.
  • Temperature: Keep consistently warm, ideally 18–28°C. Growth slows in cooler conditions, and cold wet roots can decline quickly.
  • Training: Tie the stem loosely to a moss pole, plank or trellis while it is still flexible. Aerial roots attach more readily when they meet a stable surface.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth. Heavy feeding will not improve the mottling and can damage roots if salts build up in the substrate.

Issues to watch on Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde'

  • Long bare stem sections: Increase light gradually and give the plant a stable support. Unsupported stems often stretch and lean.
  • Several yellow leaves at once: Check whether the pot is staying wet for too long. Root stress can move quickly through a climbing stem.
  • Dry, torn new leaves: Raise humidity and keep watering more even during active growth. New leaves can catch in the sheath when air is very dry.
  • Brown leaf edges: Check for inconsistent watering, mineral build-up or dry air. Flush the substrate occasionally if fertiliser salts accumulate.
  • Fine speckling or distorted leaves: Inspect for thrips and spider mites, especially on newer growth and along the midrib.

Safety for pets and children

Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde' is not pet-safe. As with other Philodendron, chewing leaves or stems can cause irritation from calcium oxalate crystals. Keep cuttings, trimmed leaves and the whole plant away from pets and children, and wash hands after handling sap.

Name origin and aroid background

Philodendron is a member of Araceae, the aroid family. The genus name comes from Greek words meaning “loving trees”, which fits the climbing habit of many Philodendron. 'Paraiso Verde' is Spanish and Portuguese for “green paradise”, matching the plant’s green-dominant mottled foliage.

Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde' develops elongated mottled leaves and strong vertical growth when trained on a pole.

2nd pair
Bought these locally for my grand-daughter. She wore them ALL the time and wore them out. She was so excited when I was able to find another pair on Amazon. She was begging me to sew them back together.

Defected Item
I bought two pair of these slippers, one for each of my children. One of the slippers on the smaller pair is defected, but alas we are past the return period. I just hate that we spent a good amount of money for what should be a quality product and it is defected. I hate for her to continue to wear them and possibly injure her foot due to the way the shoe leans.

These are so cute and comfortable. My 3 yo can put them on himself and it is so cute that they light up. Fit as expected and are great quality. Even the dog hasn’t been able to tear them apart. Would buy more styles!

Great brand
Size: 7-8 Toddler, Color: Moo-moo Cow
I usually order from their web site but they were out of stock so I decided to check Amazon and there they were. They are cute. The baby keeps them on his feet. They look warm because they are well cushioned. The quality is good and it makes a great gift because they light up.
