When to use Debco Bulb Premium Potting Mix

You may use Debco Bulb Mix at any time of the year, but take note of the correct planting time for the various bulb varieties. For many bulb varieties planting should take place during the autumn, but there are some varieties that are planted at other times of the year. Follow recommended planting times on the bulb packs.

How to use Debco Bulb Mix

Choose a pot or container at least 10-12 cm deep to allow for healthy root growth, and with ample drainage holes. Waterlogging is the greatest enemy of potted bulbs. Daffodils, Tulips, Hyacinths, Liliums and Crocus prefer a cool root zone, so terracotta containers are the best option. Pots should be located in a cool, dark area until the growing shoot is 5 cm high.

Part-fill your container with Debco Bulb Mix.

Place your bulbs, taking care that bulbs do not touch each other or the walls of the container. (For planting depths, see our 'Hint' below). Fill around and over bulbs with potting mix.

Once planted, settle the mix by gently tapping the bottom of the container on the ground. Soak thoroughly to ensure water penetrates the mix. Maintain moisture while growing.

When flowering is complete, and the leaves begin to yellow and collapse, move the pot to a less obvious location and maintain your watering programme.

Once the leaves begin to die down, larger bulbs are best removed from the pot, stored in a warm, dry place and replanted the following season. Smaller bulbs can be left in. Top-dress as new shoots appear.

Refer to growing instructions on bulb packaging and always consult your local nursery staff for advice.

Hint

Use Debco Bulb Mix straight from the bag. For best results, don't mix it with anything and close the bag tightly after use. Store in a cool, dry location.

Topdress with Debcote All Purpose fertiliser when the first buds appear. This will continue to feed the bulbs after flowering.

It is recommended that bulbs are pre-chilled in a moist environment prior to planting. For best results, place your bulbs in the vegetable crisper of your fridge until the desired planting time. After potting up, locate in a cool place to allow a strong root development prior to foliage development. Liliums and Dahlias do not require refrigeration and should be potted straight from the pack into the mix

Planting depths: When using shallow containers, plant larger bulbs such as Daffodils and Hyacinths just below the surface and closer together than in the garden (23cm apart). Plant small bulbs like Freesias at the same depth as in the garden, but closer together. In large, deep containers, plant several layers of bulbs for more flowering over a longer period.

Using the same container, combine bulb varieties that have different flowering times so you can enjoy your flowers over a longer period. Also combine annuals such as Alyssum, Lobelia.

Works
Size: 8.5"x11"
Works great for sublimation. Get plenty of sheets. Great value for the price. The paper is pretty thick and seems to hold a good amount of ink without smearing.

My go-to sublimation paper for crafting
Size: 8.5"x11"
I've used several sublimation papers, and this one has worked really well for my crafting projects. The colors transfer bright and vibrant, and the images come out crisp with good detail when using the proper sublimation printer and ink. The paper feeds smoothly through my printer and feels like a good quality weight—not too thin and not overly thick. I've used it for tumblers, keychains, and other sublimation projects, and I've been happy with the results. I also appreciate getting 110 sheets in one pack because it lasts a while, especially when working on multiple projects at once. Overall, this is a reliable sublimation paper that gives consistent results and is great for crafters or small business owners.

My Go-To Sublimation Paper — Flawless Results Every Time
Size: 8.5"x11", Size: 8.5"x11"
This is hands down the best sublimation paper I’ve used and the only one I continue to buy. I get a perfect transfer every single time—no fracturing, no fading, and no uneven results. The paper dries fast, which makes my workflow so much smoother, especially when I’m producing items in batches. I use this regularly to make air fresheners and tote bags for my small business, and the color payoff is always vibrant and crisp. The transfer rate is excellent, and it works beautifully on light-colored, high-quality polyester and other sublimation-ready surfaces. If you’re a small business owner or crafter who values consistency, quality, and ease of use, this paper is absolutely worth it. I highly recommend it and will continue to repurchase.

Best Sublimation Paper
Size: 8.5"x11"
I’ve been using A-Sub paper for my sublimation projects, and it is easily one of the best. The ink dries almost instantly once printed, so I don’t have to worry about smudging the design or getting those annoying "pizza wheel" marks from the printer rollers. The paper itself feels substantial and doesn't tear or curl easily. One of the biggest wins for me is that it never jams; it feeds through perfectly every time, saving me the frustration of wasting expensive ink and paper. When I go to press my designs, the ink releases almost completely, leaving very little behind on the paper and putting all that color onto the project. The final results look super professional, with colors that are vibrant and sharp rather than looking faded or dull. It has worked perfectly for everything I’ve tried so far, and if you want a reliable paper that gives you consistent, high-quality results, this is definitely the one to get.
