Lightweight horticultural perlite is a naturally occurring volcanic mineral that has been heat-expanded into small white granules. This high-quality perlite improves soil aeration and drainage, supporting strong root growth in a wide range of plants. It is ideal for mixing with compost or soil in pots, containers, raised beds and garden borders.

When added to soil, perlite keeps it light and airy, reducing compaction and allowing roots to breathe freely. It helps prevent waterlogging by letting excess water drain while still retaining essential moisture. This balance makes it suitable for houseplants, vegetables, seedlings and greenhouse use.

Available sizes: 1,5 and 10 Litres

Key Features

  • Improves soil aeration and drainage for healthy root growth
  • Ideal for mixing with compost or soil in pots, raised beds and borders
  • Prevents soil compaction and supports stronger plant development
  • Retains moisture while allowing excess water to drain away to avoid root rot
  • Suitable for houseplants, vegetables, seedlings and greenhouse use

How Lightweight Horticultural Perlite Improves Soil Aeration And Drainage

Perlite keeps soil open and free-flowing, allowing plant roots to access oxygen and nutrients more effectively. Unlike heavy materials such as sand or grit, perlite maintains a light structure while improving water movement through the soil. This makes it easier to work with, especially in containers and hanging baskets where weight is a factor.

Why Gardeners Choose Perlite Over Vermiculite

When comparing perlite vs vermiculite, both help with soil structure but in different ways. Perlite is better for plants that prefer free-draining conditions as it reduces water retention while keeping soil aerated. Vermiculite holds more moisture, making it more suited to plants that require consistently damp growing media. Many gardeners combine both depending on the plant’s needs.

Using Perlite In Compost And Potting Mixes

For most plants, mix 25% perlite with 75% compost or soil to create a balanced growing medium. For succulents and cacti, increase perlite content to 50% for sharper drainage. This mix prevents root rot and supports long-term plant health by maintaining a balance between moisture retention and drainage.

Perlite For Seedlings And Cuttings In Pots

Perlite is particularly useful for germinating seeds or propagating cuttings. Its structure holds moisture evenly without causing waterlogging, helping young roots establish quickly. Because perlite is sterile, it reduces the chance of soil-borne diseases affecting delicate seedlings during early growth stages.

Questions And Answers

Can I use perlite alone without compost or soil?

Yes, perlite can be used on its own for rooting cuttings and starting seeds, but most plants benefit from it being mixed with compost or soil.

Does perlite break down over time?

Perlite is stable and does not decompose, so it will remain in the soil mix for many years.

Can perlite be reused?

Yes, it can be washed and sterilised before reuse to remove any old roots or plant material.

Is perlite safe for all types of plants?

It is safe for most plants, though the ratio should be adjusted depending on whether the plant prefers moist or well-drained conditions.

How should perlite be stored?

Keep it in a dry, sealed bag away from damp areas to prevent moisture absorption before use.

Worth every penny
Size: USB C to Ethernet Adapter
This adapter provides a stable, hardwired connection when Wi-Fi is not fast enough for heavy law school research. It is strictly plug and play, requiring no software installation. The weight is negligible, making it easy to keep in my bag for campus. Given the excellent build quality and consistent functionality without any drop-offs, it offers solid value for money. It’s perfectly versatile for numerous uses (keeps me from having to use like 3 other dongles)

Works brilliantly with Steam Deck!
Size: USB C to Ethernet Adapter, Size: USB C to Ethernet Adapter
I bought this specifically for a Valve Steam Deck. I recently got a gigabit fiber connection and wanted to take full advantage of it when downloading games on the Deck. I took a gamble on this adapter knowing that Linux generally has incredible driver support without much, if any, configuring. I installed it into the Steam Deck's USB-C port, hooked the other end up to my network switch, and the Steam Deck instantly registered a new wired connection. I didn't even have to go into "Desktop Mode" for it; it all worked flawlessly in the "Gaming Mode". I downloaded a 15GB game in about 3 minutes with the Deck maxing out at 880Mbps. The device itself seems well built with a braided cable and gray anodized aluminum enclosures on each end. It's small and compact so it'll fit nicely in the Steam Deck case's little pouch or in that drawer that every house has that's full of cables, adapters, and dongles. It seems as though it's good value for money as well, like every Anker product I've purchased, but time will tell if something goes screwy down the line.

Great way to connect my Ethernet to my MacBook Pro....
Size: USB C to Ethernet Adapter
Needed to direct connect to my Modem / Router, but my MacBook Pro, being more modern, and slimmer, doesn't have an Ethernet port anymore (thank goodness). This worked perfectly; just plugged it in and ripped...definitely Plug-n-Play for my Mac. Quality is good (what else do you expect from Anker).

Easy to use Plug and Play
Size: USB C to Ethernet Adapter
The item works great. I was having issues with video conference calls even with strong wifi in my house. I bought this adapter due to my HP laptop not having an Ethernet port. This worked great right out of the box. It was detected automatically and as soon as I plugged the Ethernet cable into the adapter, my laptop immediately switched over to that and my internet became more stable.
