Disporopsis bakerorum 'Bill Baker' makes a superb woodland garden specimen, forming a 20" tall x 5' wide patch in 9 years. The upright green stems are clothed in 1" wide x 4" long glossy evergreen leaves. Disporopsis bakerorum was only published by botanist Aaron Floden as a new species in 2015, and is suspected to have originated in the wild as a cross of Disporopsis pernyi x Disporopsis fuscopicta. The stalks are adorned by small star-shaped white flowers in mid-April (NC). In effect, the clump very much resembles Disporopsis pernyi, with narrower foliage and slightly different flowers. Its namesake, 'Bill Baker' was the person to first introduce this to cultivation from its native China. Disporopsis 'Bill Baker' is a winner of the Great Plant Picks program for the Pacific Northwest, where it also thrives.
