Bug-A-Boo uses a combination of 100% organic time-tested extracts and evidence-based essential oils to naturally combat mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, and a variety of other garden regulars. The herbs used in our formula are useful in deterring pests without the problematic toxins of other commercial bug repellents.*

Bug-A-Boo starts with fresh extracts of yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and catnip (Nepeta cateria), with which we blend neem oil (Azadirachta indica) and essential oils of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), rose geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), lemon eucalyptus (Eucalyptus citriodora), Virginia cedarwood (Juniperus Virginiana), and lavender (Lavandula angustifolia).

As with all natural insect repellents, be sure to reapply often and as needed for best results. While some choose to spray their skin directly, others find it effective to simply spray their clothing. 

To use: shake well before use to ensure the dispersion of the essential oils within the herbal extract. 

Why are you choosing to use essential oils in bug spray?

While we believe in almost all cases that fresh plant extracts or dried herbs make the best preparations and we choose not to use ANY essential oils internally and only extremely sparing use of any essential oils externally, we do believe that insect repellent is a context in which essential oils can be incredibly useful, effective, and appropriate.

When we are being increasingly faced with tick and mosquito-borne diseases that are potentially threatening and complex, we choose to use minute amounts of essential oils as a safer (yet effective) alternative to mainstream repellents which can come with serious health consequences. The amounts of essential oil that we are choosing to use and the quality of the oils - all from highly aromatic plants that give up their oils easily - that we are sourcing make all the difference.

Our Bug-A-Boo uses primarily fresh plant extracts combined with a tiny amount of hand-selected essential oils that are 100% organic, from the US, and from prolific and sustainable plant sources that we trust. For example, the Virginia cedarwood that we use is from discarded cedar tree stumps and chips (and no logging is practiced for the purpose of producing the oil).
