When King Hrothgar and the Danes are terrorized by the cursed descendent of Cain the Murderer, the monstrous Grendel, Beowulf sets out to liberate Heorot. Beowulf duals the abominable Grendel in hand-to-hand combat, ripping his arm off and reigning victorious. But the epic is far from over. Avenging her son’s death, Grendel’s mother kills one of King Hrothgar’s closest advisors, sending Beowulf on a journey to track and kill her. Beowulf tracks her to her underwater cave where he engages in brutal combat with the primordial mother. Beowulf’s weapon is ineffective, snapping during the melee. Fortunately, a magical blade graces the wall of the beast’s cave, and Beowulf is able to defeat the creature. This marks the beginning of the long and prosperous reign of Beowulf: King of the Geats.
