The Philodendron plowmanii ‘Watermelon’ is a highly sought-after crawling philodendron prized for its striking, heart-shaped foliage with rippled textures and unique mottling. Each leaf displays bold silver-green veins overlaid with a marbled pattern that resembles the rind of a watermelon, giving this plant its charming nickname. As it matures, the leaves become large, heavily corrugated, and dramatically textured—making it a true statement piece in any collection.

Why Philodendron plowmanii ‘Watermelon’ is Unique & Rare:

  • Watermelon-Patterned Leaves: Distinctive mottling and veining mimic the look of watermelon rind.
  • Rippling Texture: Mature leaves develop deep corrugation and a bold, sculptural surface.
  • Crawling Growth Habit: Unlike climbing philodendrons, this species creeps horizontally across the soil, sending out roots at each node.
  • Collector’s Rarity: Not commonly found in mainstream shops; a true gem for aroid enthusiasts.

Why You’ll Love It: 💚

  • Bold & Exotic: Its textured, patterned leaves bring high drama to any display.
  • Conversation Piece: Instantly recognizable and admired by collectors.
  • Low-Maintenance Beauty: Thrives with simple philodendron care in the right conditions.

Plant Care FAQs:

  • Plant Type: Chill Plant
  • Plant Vibe: Juicy Rare Plant
  • Botanical Name: Philodendron plowmanii
  • Cultivar/Trade Name: ‘Philodendron plowmanii 'Watermelon’
  • Light Requirements: Bright, indirect light for best variegation and growth; avoid direct harsh sun.
  • Watering: Keep soil lightly moist; allow the top 1–2" to dry out before watering again.
  • Humidity: Enjoys high humidity (60–80%). A humidifier or pebble tray prevents leaf crisping.
  • Soil Type: Loose, well-draining aroid mix (orchid bark, perlite, coco coir).
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during active growth.
  • Growth Habit: Creeping ground cover—ideal in wide pots or shallow planters.
  • Toxicity: Toxic if ingested by pets or humans.

Pro Care Tip: Because it crawls instead of climbing, plant your Philodendron plowmanii ‘Watermelon’ in a wide, shallow container to give it room to spread.

🌱 Plant Styling Tips: Showcase it in a decorative, low planter where its sprawling habit and large rippled leaves can be admired. Perfect as a centerpiece or floor display in bright indoor spaces.

🍵 Tea Pairing: Pair its bold, tropical personality with hibiscus tea—vibrant, refreshing, and full of character, just like this plant.

⚠️ Please note: Each specimen has natural variation in leaf shape, size, and markings. Soil may shift during shipping. Cosmetic blemishes are normal and do not affect plant health.

Not a chew toy
Size: Medium (VALUE 2-Pack), Style: Beef
This is not for a voracious chewer...not durable. My dog destroyed in a matter of minutes, so the cost was high compared to the time it lasted. Maybe my expectation was too high but was disappointed in this product.

The ONLY Bones/Chews Dog-Approved in Our House!
Flavor Name: Original Jerky, Size: X-Large
We have 2 purebred pitbulls, both adult males who weigh between 75-80 pounds. We bought a huge assortment of bones, treats, and chews when we first got our boys (they're rescues, and we got them at the same time). They strongly favored these Marrowchews, even over other, imitation products of different brands. We actually didn't know they had marrow INSIDE the bones for quite some time, and as soon as we realized that, we understood why our dogs loved them so much! The way the marrow is embedded in the bone, but a ways in from either end, is really clever. The dogs can surely smell it long before they can taste it, and it seems to keep them really interested and motivated at first. Then, they get to the actual marrow, and they are working on these bones non-stop until it's completely gone. The way they are made is also really unique; they sort of 'splinter' as they get chewed, and it actually helps with doggie dental care, cleaning the teeth and massaging the gums. There is no mess with these bones, no pieces flaking or chunking off, anything like that. They are also completely odor-free. With other bones/chews, they'll start them, but lose interest really quickly, and never so much as look at those again. These specific Marrowchews are truly the ONLY ones that keep our dogs interested, and for a significant amount of time, too. They'll work on the XL sizes daily throughout the day for a total of 1-2 hours, and they last a couple of months, easily. And keep in mind, these are pretty aggressive chewers! HIGHLY recommend these, and the price on Amazon is the best anywhere!

Durable and fun
Flavor Name: Beef, Size: Medium/Large
I have two dogs and I only bought one bone over a month ago. They’ve both been chewing on it and it’s held up really well. I wouldn’t say they’re aggressive chewers, but they do like chewing. They’re still picking it up and using it, so they’re definitely not bored with it. As for me, it’s been a pretty great buy.

Tough Chew!
Flavor Name: Original Jerky, Size: Medium
Sporn is a very tough chew. We have a 22pound Beagle 1 year old. She spend little time working on the Hard plastic that encases the marrow. Now I don't doubt there are some dogs that would chew this mindlessly for the small marrow treat. It is not for my pup! She needs more play to keep at it. A TOUGH CHEW would be better slightly less thick and more marrow inside. I attached a string and had her whirly birding around chasing this bone but once we let go she has a 30 second interest. Not for every dog maybe for the big guys 100 lb brutus !
