True Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is a fast-growing, nutrient-rich perennial herb long valued in organic gardening, permaculture, and herbal medicine. Unlike Bocking 14, which is a sterile hybrid, true comfrey grows from seed—ideal for gardeners looking to expand their patch naturally. With deep roots and rapid leaf growth, it enriches compost, boosts compost tea, and supports organic fertilizer systems. We offer both true comfrey seeds for sale and comfrey plants for sale for those looking to enhance soil health and biodiversity. Pair it with our high-quality amaranth seeds for sale to build a resilient and productive garden ecosystem.

Why Grow Organic True Comfrey?

  • Powerful Soil Builder & Green Mulch – The comfrey plant is a dynamic accumulator, pulling nutrients from deep within the soil and making them available to surrounding plants.

  • Compost Tea & Fertilizer Booster – High in nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus, comfrey leaves break down quickly and can be used to enhance compost piles or brewed into nutrient-rich compost tea for plant feeding.

  • Medicinal & Herbal Uses – Traditionally used for wound healing, inflammation relief, and herbal salves.

  • Attracts Pollinators & Improves Biodiversity – Produces bell-shaped flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects.

  • Low-Maintenance & Perennial Growth – A sized plant that grows vigorously year after year with minimal care.

How to Use True Comfrey:

  • Compost Tea & Liquid Fertilizer – Steep comfrey leaves in water to create a natural, nitrogen-rich fertilizer.

  • Compost Pile Accelerator – Speeds up decomposition and adds vital nutrients to compost.

  • Mulch & Green Manure – Chop leaves and use as a nutrient-dense mulch around fruit trees, vegetables, and garden beds.

  • Herbal & Medicinal Applications – Harvest leaves and roots for salves, poultices, and skin-soothing remedies.

  • Livestock Feed Supplement – Some farmers use comfrey as fodder for animals, though it should be used in moderation.

The History & Uses of Comfrey in Gardening & Herbal Medicine

Native to Europe and Asia, comfrey has been cultivated for over 2,000 years as a healing herb and soil-enhancing plant. Known as "knitbone", it was traditionally used to support bone healing and skin repair. In modern permaculture, comfrey remains a staple for regenerative farming, organic composting, and sustainable gardening.

How to Grow True Comfrey from Seed:

  • Planting Time: Sow in spring or fall for the best germination success.

  • Sun Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade.

  • Soil & Watering: Thrives in well-drained, fertile soil, but can tolerate poor conditions.

  • Harvesting: Cut leaves several times per season for mulch, compost tea, or medicinal use.

OK shoes for the price.
I wasn't sure about these shoes. They look flimsy and thin, but they are actually pretty comfortable. I wouldn't say these are great for outdoor running or anything, but I wear them around the house and took them on a cruise, and, surprisingly, I walked more in them than in my normal sneakers. They fit fine and are easy to slip on. They are easy to clean, just rinse off. Breathable. They aren't the most attractive shoes I own, but they pass. Would I get them again? Probably. We will see how long they last.

Definitely a good surprise
Size: 12.5, Color: A Black
Absolutely the most comfortable shoes I have ever had. Extremely lightweight true fit. They are very breathable. They are not a running sneaker. They seem to be very durable as I wore them everyday of vacation while walking around Las Vegas. I would definitely buy them again. Very good buy for the price

Didn't fit my narrow feet, but still excellent shoes at a great low price
Size: 11, Color: A Black
These are some of the lightest shoes I've ever seen, but the build quality appears to be excellent. They're tongue-less, like slip-ons, but unlike some, you can adjust the tightness with the laces. The body of the shoe is a mesh-like fabric, which allows good breathability and overall comfort, and the soles are a molded rubbery material with nice treads for grip. I've been wearing a name-brand shoe made very similarly for a couple of years, and these are a very good likeness of them, at a much lower price. I like them because of the light weight and the fabric, which make them feel almost like you're barefoot. Unfortunately for me, I have narrow feet, and these fit more like a D width shoe, with more room in the toe box than I can handle. I'm returning them for that reason. For people with "normal" feet, these make really nice, stylish and comfortable shoes. I don't know how well they would hold up to sports or running, but for walking and day-to-day wear, they're great. I suppose I could grade them down because they don't fit my feet, but I find lots of shoes don't, and many makers use D width as the default for men's shoes. So I'm still rating them as 5 stars.

In a pinch they're worth it.
Size: 12, Color: D Grey
I got the dark gray color. They came exactly as pictured and are decently comfortable but as far as packaging it's very poor. They come in a small plastic bag all squished and deformed so you have to wear them a few times before they take shape again. For the price it's a great buy for some generic work shoes or something, the bottom tread doesn't last long at all though if you're expecting them to last a long time as it will be gone in a week or two if you wear them frequently. Buy them if you don't feel like spending a lot of money on shoes but want a new pair cheap.

Ladies, don't be afraid. Buy 'em. Trust me
Size: 9.5, Color: A Black
My elderly mother adores these. She had to have breathable awesome shoes for post-surgery and these fit the bill (and her feet!) So i got some for me. Whoa. Comfort! And I love the slip-on ease, b/c sometimes I just need to go, go, and go some more. Love them in black, haven't had long enough for durability, but helpful for my mom in her physical therapy and they're holding up to the worst she can do to them.
