The August Beauty Gardenia, a cherished flowering shrub, is renowned for its stunning blossoms and captivating fragrance. Hailing from China, this evergreen beauty from the Rubiaceae family is a cultivar of the Gardenia jasminoides species.

Glossy, dark green leaves and showy white flowers define the August Beauty Gardenia. The alluring aroma of the blooms, which usually appear from late spring to early summer, brings a touch of elegance to any garden setting.

The August Beauty Gardenia thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil (pH between 5.0 and 6.5). Enhance its growth by enriching the soil with organic matter such as compost or peat moss, which boosts drainage and fertility. The plant prefers full to partial sunlight, as excess shade can hinder flower production.

Consistent watering is essential for the health of your August Beauty Gardenia. The soil should stay moist but not soggy. Overwatering can result in root rot and other fungal diseases, hence the importance of maintaining a balance.

After planting, water the plant thoroughly and apply a layer of organic mulch to maintain moisture and suppress weed growth.

Watering tips include deep and infrequent watering, aiming the water at the base of the plant to avoid wetting the foliage and adjusting watering based on rainfall. Signs of overwatering include yellowing leaves, wilting, and root rot.

Water 2-3 times per week during the first growing season. In the second growing season, water once or twice a week. Shortly after planting, check the soil an hour after watering to ensure that the soil is draining well.

Where Do Gardenias Grow Best?

Your new Flowerwood Gardenia bushes will remain hardy in USDA Zones 8 - 11.

Place your Gardenia bushes in slightly acidic soil with good drainage. Soil that is too alkaline results in yellowing leaves.

Do Gardenias Like Full Sun or Shade?

Plant this gardenia in Full Sun to Part Shade. If you are located in hotter zones, such as the southern United States, plant them somewhere where they will receive morning sun and afternoon shade.

If you are located in cooler zones, such as the northern United States, plant them in full sun to help ensure their winter survival.

How To Care For Gardenias?

Pruning helps shape the plant, remove dead or diseased branches, and stimulate new growth. Prune in early spring, after flowering has finished, making clean cuts above a leaf node or bud. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches, and avoid heavy pruning to maintain flower production. Always sanitize pruning tools before and after use to prevent disease spread.

Proper fertilization and pruning are crucial to the health and beauty of your August Beauty Gardenia. A high-nitrogen, acid-formulated fertilizer is ideal. Organic options like compost or well-rotted manure can also be beneficial.

Our dogs hurt their mouths chewing these bones
Color: Purple & Blue
I don't do a lot of reviews because I realize many are objective opinions. However, in this case I felt it was necessary to warn others. Our dogs are aggressive chewers. Their last rubber bones (not these) which we've purchased before, and recently purchased again, were destroyed quickly. Chunks of rubber came off the ends. Since those didn't hold up like they used to, I found these harder bones hoping they would last longer. They were able to gnaw into the hard plastic within a few minutes. This created sharp edges that cut their mouths. When I saw a bit of blood on the bones, I took them away from the dogs and threw them away. I wondered why they quit chewing on them after being so excited at first. Also, these are hard enough to damage a tooth.

Pups have shown zero interest in these toys….
Color: Purple & Blue
I would agree that these are indestructible being neither of my dogs have shown any interest in these at all. At this rate they should last forever…

Durable but losses interest
Color: Purple & Blue
My dog is an aggressive chewer. She was interested in this toy while it was new, but soon after lost interest. Good news is although it took a beating it did not break or splinter. If soppy toys are disposable in your house, give it a try.
