Discover the tropical charm of Dypsis Lutescens, commonly referred to as the Areca Palm. Originating from the lush landscapes of Madagascar, this palm is renowned for its feathery fronds in a refreshing shade of green, making it a favorite choice for both indoor and outdoor green enthusiasts.

How to Grow

The Areca Palm thrives in bright, indirect sunlight and can tolerate some direct morning or late afternoon sun. It is best cultivated in a well-draining potting mix, and containers with good drainage are essential. This palm prefers the warmth and is ideally suited for USDA zones 10-11.

Care Tips

Water the Areca Palm moderately, allowing the top soil to dry out between watering sessions. Over-watering can lead to root rot. Being a tropical plant, it appreciates high humidity, so consider misting the leaves or placing the palm on a humidity tray, especially if grown indoors.

Uses

The Areca Palm's graceful, arching fronds make it a popular choice for living rooms, sunrooms, patios, or even poolside. Apart from its aesthetic appeal, it's also known for its air-purifying qualities, making indoor spaces fresher and more breathable.

Planting Tips

When potting, select a container with ample drainage holes. To replicate its natural habitat, use a potting mix that's rich but fast-draining. If planting outdoors, choose a sheltered location that protects the palm from strong winds and intense midday sun.

Maintenance

Regularly remove any yellow or brown fronds to maintain the palm's vibrant appearance and promote new growth. If indoors, rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even growth, as it will naturally grow towards the light source.

A Poetic Parable of Silence and Resistance
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky's Deaf Republic is a haunting narrative of political turmoil and collective silence, where a community's deafness becomes a powerful act of defiance. Through lyrical verse, Kaminsky weaves a tale of love, loss, and resistance, capturing the profound consequences of political violence on ordinary lives. This collection is a poignant testament to the resilience of the human spirit amidst oppression and serves as a stark reminder of our moral responsibilities in troubled times.

One of the most original and moving books of poems I've ever read
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky is practically a legend, at this point, and deservedly so. This is his second book of poems, and proves well worth the wait. The individual poems are beautiful and strange; together, they comprise a kind of allegory for our times, and manage to be both somehow light-of-heart, somehow luminous, and also seriously profound. I would recommend this book even to those who don't usually read poetry, because it's beyond poetry, truly.

Beautifully written and good quality book
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
I received the book earlier than the estimated date. I love this poem collection of Ilya Kaminsky. Although it describes the social unrest in an unknown place (and unfamiliar to me), his poems are beautifully written with strong images and music. THe paper quality and the book are so new and lovely. I couldn't think that it is used (as it stated).

Life: A challenge in many ways in all cultures
Format: Kindle
I heard Ilya Kaminsky read his poems at Chautauqua this past summer. Over powering and dynamic to hear his voice speak his words... about his life experiences need to be remembered. A must read and if possible with the audio.

A brilliant poetic narrative whose lines leap off the pages which turn themselves.
Format: Paperback
When you get to the end, you wonder how Kaminsky worked his wondrous magic, how it's possible to think and write poetry like that. The poem is a story about Vasenka, a mythical town somewhere in the Ukraine, occupied by the Soviet army during an unspecified period of time. It is an allegory of the cruelty of occupation, the futility of the resistance of a few, and the deafness of the silent majority, a deafness that courageously resists the occupation and a deafness that hardens the heart and ignores the evil surrounding them. It could have happened anywhere anytime. The occupiers could have been Nazis, Ottoman Turks, American, English, or Spanish. The poetry is piercingly sharp, visionary, breathless and the metaphors are the likes of which you've never heard before, lines like “the sound we do not hear lifts the gulls off the water,” “Our hearing doesn't weaken, but something silent in us strengthens,” or “In these avenues, deafness is our only barricade.” This is drop-dead beautiful poetry.
