The Kousa Dogwood Trees Have Stunning Foliage

This tree requires watering to give the foliage the deep colors that make it popular. The deep green leaves and attractive bark make this a famous type that grows slowly to a medium rate, pruning an easy task. It is renowned in areas with harsh winters, including New York State, where it has become naturalized. Its popularity is due to its deep green foliage. In the Spring, the feel of green foliage is the main attraction, followed by a beautiful late spring array.

The Tree Produces Star-Shaped Blooms In Late Spring

In the Spring, between May and June, an array of star-shaped white flowers sits above the green leaves. The leaves and flowers fall to the ground in the Fall, leaving a clear view of the beautiful bark.

The Bark Of The Dogwood Looks Like A Jigsaw Puzzle

As the leaves fall, a view of the impressive bark is captured. The bark has been described as appearing like a jigsaw puzzle during the Fall. Many owners of these choose to prune the branches in the Fall to better view the bark and promote new growth in Spring. In the Fall, the leaves transition to deep purple and red colors.

The Tree Grows About 1-2 Feet A Year

One reason it has become so popular is its slow rate of growth. It will grow between 12 and 24 inches per year in perfect conditions. Slow growth rates make it a good choice for areas with power lines and those who want to keep their exterior space under control. When it reaches maturity, it will grow to around 25 feet in height and width to create a canopy ball.

These trees are native to parts of Asia, including Korea, China, and Japan. It was brought to the U.S. in the mid-1870s and has become popular along the East Coast. These fruits have become a popular food for squirrels and birds throughout the U.S.

This Tree is a beautiful alternative to the native flowering dogwood. It grows in a distinctive vase-shaped form. Its full name is dogwood, Cornus kousa. It produces striking creamy white bracts in the spring. In the fall, you get amazing red fruits that have a unique reddish-purple color. It does best in acid soil and is known for having a shallow root system, so be mindful of planting it near heavy foot traffic. The Kousa Dogwood is a fantastic, multi-seasonal ornamental tree.

A Deep Exhale in This Hard Life
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I have found so much hope in these pages. Knowing I'm praying alongside others is really sweet and powerful reminder that I'm not alone. I'm glad liturgies seem to be a spiritual practice more are clinging to in the church in America. Life is hard, and these prayers are beautiful and rich and helpful in praying when you just can't find the words or if you want some structure in starting or ending the day. I love the prayers for the holidays, I love the breath prayers, and I love the invitation these words are into a deeper faith and a faith where we are all connected. This is a book to keep out in your home and a book to give. We all parent in different ways and no matter how you fit that role, these prayers will be beneficial and nurturing to your soul. This work from Kayla Craig has been a deep exhale for me.

Beautiful guide to praying for your own kids or other kids
Format: Hardcover
Kayla Craig offers a stunning book for parents - or really anyone who has relationships with children of any age! There are dozens of beautifully written prayers and pages of breath prayers for all kinds of situations, from special days to everyday moments, which can be read and prayed as-is (including a few simple prayers worded for kids!), but which may inspire your own words as well. I especially appreciated the way the prayers acknowledge the likely privilege of the type of parent who would be able to afford this book (or have the friends who would purchase this book for them). Most of the prayers have some moment of outward focus, remembering those who might be struggling, who might not have the same resources, who might be oppressed or grieving or suffering. As I sit with these prayers and let Kayla’s words become my own, I ask God to let his heart become my heart, to care for those on the margins as much as he does. Beautiful book to have on your nightstand or to give as a gift.

A fantastic prayer companion on this parenting journey
Format: Hardcover
Kayla Craig has such a gift for naming the hard things, wrapping them up in tender promises, and buoying up our hearts with the hope she weaves through each of her prayers. I so appreciate this book of prayers as it brings deep compassion and kindness to both the hard and the happy. I did not grow up in a liturgical tradition, but I have found liturgy to be a grounding, calming thing these days. In the midst of pandemic parenting, in the midst of a world that groans and weeps, her words bring a sense of calm, a rootedness in the present moment, and the invitation to see His goodness, His lovingkindess in every single moment. For any parent that feels like they have no more to give, for those who have maybe lost the ability to pray, or wonder is it even worth it to try...let Kayla gently lend you some beautiful words that may help you continue onward.

Beautiful and Spirit-filled book of prayers!
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I am not a parent, but I have loved following Kayla Craig’s Instagram account, @liturgiesforparents. She is a gifted writer and manages to convey complex emotions into simple prayers. There are prayers for life events, everyday occurrences, and, my favorite part, breath prayers. I especially liked the Scriptural basis for the breath prayers. As a pastor, I would not hesitate to hand this book to a family in my congregation. In fact, I may impress many copies upon families. I also read these prayers through the lens as someone who doesn’t have my own children. Most of the prayers are written for parents and from that perspective, but many could be edited to be used as prayers for children who are not your own. My only critique is that some of the prayers felt a little too long. And I would have liked more prayers that kids could say too. I received an advance copy after pre-ordering the book and agreeing to share my thoughts.
