Whereas the true Pleiospilos nelii has a silky golden-apricot flower, the less-common cultivar 'Royal Flush' has a deep rose flower with a white center. Extremely succulent pair of purple-gray leaves form a clefted egg-shaped body known as a bi-lobe. Leaves are dotted with myriad tiny dots that are in fact stomates (pores in the epidermis). Can grow quite large, to 4" in diameter. The genus Pleiospilos part of the family Aizoaceae, which includes the various forms of plants known as ice plants and those known as mimicry plants. Excellent in a small windowsill pot or with other mimicry plants that have similar ecological needs.

• Fertilizing: Feed sparingly, only during the growing season (spring and summer), using a balanced, low-nitrogen fertilizer diluted to about half the recommended strength.
