This species is named after botanist G.W. Bates and is especially popular for its ability to thrive in low light and for its richly colored, bumpy leaves that give it a unique, prehistoric look.

The leaves grow in a distichous (opposite) arrangement when young, eventually forming a loose rosette over time. Small clusters form at the base as the plant matures, making it an excellent candidate for indoor displays or shaded outdoor containers.

☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright, indirect light or partial shade. Excellent for north-facing windows or protected patios. Too much direct sun may cause leaf stress or fading.

💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply when the soil is fully dry. Gasterias are very drought-tolerant and sensitive to overwatering, especially in low-light conditions. Cut back on water during winter dormancy.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Keep above 40°F for best results. Protect from frost. For winter shipping or cold regions, we recommend adding a [Heat Pack].
