✅ White Bird of Paradise – The Luxe Minimalist’s Indoor Palm Alternative

Know Your Plant
The White Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) is the more serene and larger cousin of the classic orange Bird of Paradise. Native to the subtropical regions of southern Africa, this plant is a bold architectural specimen with massive, paddle-shaped leaves that fan out in a regal silhouette. Unlike its orange-flowered sibling, Strelitzia nicolai produces subtle white-and-blue blooms in ideal outdoor or greenhouse conditions, but it's most prized for its majestic foliage. At Budsnblush, we love this variety for its clean, minimalist beauty and ability to instantly elevate modern interiors into lush, resort-style sanctuaries.

Benefits of White Bird of Paradise
• Offers a tall, striking green focal point for large interiors
• Helps improve indoor air quality by absorbing airborne toxins
• Adds vertical greenery without being high-maintenance
• Inspires feelings of calm, spaciousness, and tropical luxury
• Works well in contemporary, minimalist, and biophilic designs
• Grows upright—perfect for corners or beside furniture without crowding

Where to Keep?
• Stunning in living room corners, especially near tall windows
• Ideal for bedrooms with ample sunlight—adds hotel-like calm
• Perfect for balcony entrances or large bathrooms with bright light
• Looks beautiful in offices, reading nooks, and high-ceiling interiors
• Pairs well with matte black, ceramic, or cane planters
• Avoid tight shelves—it thrives when given vertical and horizontal space

Care Guide for White Bird of Paradise

  1. Light: Needs bright, indirect light or filtered sunlight—east or south-facing rooms are ideal

  2. Watering: Water thoroughly when top 2 inches of soil are dry; do not let roots sit in water

  3. Temperature:

    • Performs best between 20°C to 38°C

    • Handles indoor summer heat well with sufficient humidity

  4. Humidity:

    • Prefers high humidity, especially in hot climates
      • Use a pebble tray or humidifier for indoor rooms
      • Mist leaves lightly every few days
      • Avoid placing near heaters or AC vents

  5. Soil: Use a rich, well-aerated mix—combine loam, compost, cocopeat, and perlite

  6. Fertilizer:

    • Feed monthly with balanced NPK 20-20-20 during spring to early fall

    • Add seaweed or vermicompost for organic boosts

  7. Maintenance:

    • Dust leaves gently with a damp cloth every 2–3 weeks

    • Rotate plant every few weeks to maintain even growth

    • Stake if necessary to keep tall stems upright and stable

Common Problems
• Curled leaves: Often due to under-watering or dry air
• Brown leaf edges: Result of low humidity or salt buildup—flush soil occasionally
• Slow growth: May be due to lack of sunlight or tight roots—check for repotting
• Pale leaves: Caused by overwatering or nutrient imbalance—adjust care
• Tears in leaves: Normal aging process or response to airflow—adds character

At Budsnblush, the White Bird of Paradise is more than a plant—it's a symbol of elevated living. For those who want clean, tropical luxury and sculptural greenery with minimal fuss, this is the statement piece that transforms ordinary rooms into modern sanctuaries.

Betting the farm
Format: Kindle
Shani and Molly meet after Molly unexpectedly inherits the horse farm that Shani expected to be hers. The two butt heads as Molly figures out what she wants to do with the farm. Both women are gun shy due to ghost from theirs past but they can't deny the chemistry between them. Just when it looks like they might get their happily ever after, betrayal from a friend throws a wrench in the works. This was a really good read with well structured characters and an engaging storyline.

There are some issues, but overall, this is a good book!
Format: Paperback
3.5 stars. I have always enjoyed Jennifer Dugan's writing, so I was excited to read "The Ride of Her Life." This is a sapphic fish-out-of-water, angst-ridden romance between two polar opposite protagonists thrust together after tragedy strikes. Molly has just inherited a commercial horse barn from her estranged aunt (her mom's sister). It is the best thing that has happened to her in a while, and while she's sad about her aunt's passing, she sees this inheritance as a huge life change and a way to make her dreams a reality. Shani is the farrier who lives on the compound. She also helped take care of Molly's aunt in the last days of her life. Shani thought *she* was going to inherit the barn from Molly's aunt, especially since she worked there for years and is full of experience when it comes to running the place. The longer Molly stays at the property, the more she connects to the area, the animals, and the people her aunt loved, cared for, employed, and valued. At constant odds with one another, Molly and Shani are essentially rivals and enemies. Shani doesn't want Molly to sell the property, but Molly needs to pay off her student loans and get her business off the ground. Will they eventually see eye to eye? What you will find in this book is a relatively quick, fun read that is offset by its heavier themes. Unlike "Love at First Set," the balance between seriousness and levity didn't quite mesh as well for me. I liked the enemies-to-lovers vibes in this book, that aspect is handled really well! This leads to a lot of pining and tension between Molly and Shani early on, which sets the stage for some epic steaminess in the latter portion of the book. Unfortunately, what you will *also* find here is a *metric ton* of miscommunication, so if you're not into that trope, stay away from this book. I also wish I had known more about Shani. Her exposition and backstory feel very scant compared to Molly's. We know she has a lot of trauma from when she was younger, but that's about it. Nothing is expounded upon too tremendously. Another thing that stood out to me is how it is repeatedly mentioned that Molly has made it a habit of getting lost in her past relationships. Molly falls fast and jumps in head-first. There's no real indication that her dalliance/tryst/potential relationship with Shani is any different just because they shared some deep confessional moments. Molly's still just turning herself into a horse girl to satisfy Shani's career even though she loves everything antithetical to that lifestyle because..... love? S3x? Both? Finally, while I am satisfied with the ending where the two protagonists are concerned, it feels like there is little resolution between Molly and her best friend Nat, and between Molly and her mother. Still, there is a lot to like about this novel!
