Rhipsalis baccifera ‘Oasis’, commonly known as the Mistletoe Cactus ‘Oasis’, is a stunning tropical epiphytic cactus prized for its soft, cascading stems and fresh, modern aesthetic. A member of the Cactaceae family, it is native to the rainforests of Central and South America, Africa, and parts of the Caribbean — the only cactus species naturally found outside the Americas.

Unlike desert cacti, Rhipsalis baccifera thrives in humid, shaded environments. The ‘Oasis’ cultivar is particularly admired for its lush, trailing stems in vibrant green tones that create a fountain-like effect when grown in hanging planters. Its fine, cylindrical branches can extend over a metre in length, forming a graceful, cascading silhouette. In spring and summer, it may produce tiny, white or pale pink flowers that mature into small, translucent berries resembling pearls.

Minimalist yet lush, Rhipsalis baccifera ‘Oasis’ is perfect for bringing soft, organic texture into contemporary interiors — an effortlessly elegant plant that evokes the calm and vitality of the tropics.

Rhipsalis baccifera ‘Oasis’ – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can cause sunburn or yellowing of the stems. It also tolerates medium light levels, making it suitable for well-lit rooms slightly away from windows. A bright bathroom or east-facing window is ideal.

Watering

Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil slightly moist during the growing season (spring and summer), but allow it to dry a little between waterings. In winter, reduce watering to prevent root rot. Always ensure the pot has good drainage, as Rhipsalis dislikes sitting in excess water.

Temperature and Humidity

Temperature: Prefers warmth between 18–28 °C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15 °C.
Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (50–80%) mimics its natural tropical habitat. It thrives in humid environments such as kitchens or bathrooms. Mist occasionally or group with other plants to maintain moisture in the air.

Soil and Potting

Use a loose, well-draining cactus or epiphyte mix — ideally compost blended with perlite, bark chips, and a little coco coir. This provides both drainage and light moisture retention. Repot every 2–3 years in spring to refresh the mix and accommodate new growth.

Feeding

Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser. Suspend feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows. Over-fertilising can damage the delicate roots, so less is more.

Pruning and Maintenance

Trim any overly long or tangled stems to maintain a neat shape and encourage branching. Pruned segments can easily be propagated — simply allow cuttings to callus for a day, then place them in moist cactus mix. Wipe stems gently with a damp cloth to remove dust.

Growth and Maturity

A moderately fast grower under the right conditions, Rhipsalis baccifera ‘Oasis’ can reach 60–100 cm in trailing length. Its slender stems will eventually branch out densely, creating a lush, waterfall effect. With maturity, it may produce small, star-like flowers and pearl-like fruits that add delicate seasonal charm.

Common Issues

  • Shrivelled stems: Underwatering or prolonged dryness.

  • Yellowing stems: Too much direct sunlight or overwatering.

  • Soft or blackened roots: Poor drainage or waterlogged soil.

  • Pests: Occasionally affected by mealybugs or spider mites — treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.

Background and Benefits

Rhipsalis baccifera is an epiphytic cactus that grows naturally on tree branches in tropical forests, where it absorbs moisture from the air and rainfall. Unlike desert cacti, it prefers shaded, humid conditions — making it an excellent choice for homes and offices with indirect light.

The ‘Oasis’ variety is cultivated for its dense, fountain-like growth and fresh green colouration. It’s also non-toxic, air-purifying, and incredibly low-maintenance — ideal for both beginner plant enthusiasts and collectors seeking easy, elegant greenery.

It brings movement and softness to modern, minimalist, or biophilic interiors and pairs beautifully with other texture-rich plants like Asparagus plumosus or Philodendron micans. With its effortless grace and calming presence, ‘Oasis’ truly lives up to its name — a refreshing green retreat for any space.

Very Durable and keeps dog busy
    Size: Medium
We have a dog who loves to chew up EVERYTHING!! She is constantly getting into things and if she can't reach an item of interest, she will find a way to get it, even if it means jumping up on the counter or pool table. LOL. We've tried every puzzle toy and treat you can imagine to keep her busy and tire her out mentally, but nothing really worked that well. She would figure the puzzles out quickly and become board with them after several uses, and preferred to try and chew up the plastic instead. Treats, like bully sticks, that should last a "long time" were gone within 10 minutes. I didn't have high hopes for this product given the history of our dog, but I WAS WRONG!!! The treat was already in the ball when it arrived, so I gave it to her like that. She licked, pawed, and chewed at this treat for hours and did not get board with it. She wore down a little of the dome shape on the treat by the end of the night, but there was still a lot left when I took it up. I gave it to her again the next evening and again it kept her busy. By the third day, the treat was worn down to a ring shape so I took the treat out of the ball and gave it to her. She ate it in about 3 minutes. After examining the ball, it is still in good shape with no damage like we found with hard plastic toys like the kong wobbler. We will definitely be ordering the refills to use with this ball. Best product we have found for busy, destructive dogs who become board easily.

Durable, Engaging, and Perfect for Small Dogs
    Size: Small
The Starmark Everlasting Treat Bento Ball is fantastic! My small dog loves it, and it keeps them entertained for a long time. The toy is tough and durable, perfect for chewing, and the treat-dispensing feature makes playtime even more engaging. A great way to keep dogs mentally and physically stimulated.

Great toy, just no match for my dog
    Size: Large
I love this toy but it was unfortunately no match for my 75lb catahoula leopard dog, it took her about an hour tops to rip the treat out of the ball entirely and walk off with it to eat it 🤣 the side I put a bunch of her smaller treats into kept her busy longer. I'll definitely keep using it, she absolutely loves it, but shes just too good at tearing things up 😅 To be fair, shes a really heavy chewer, and usually gets frozen marrow bones as treats. This is a great alternative, especially for the price, its nice and heavy, she hasnt chewed through the rubber yet, but it probably wont be long. She doesn't throw it around like she does her other balls, but when I toss it to her its got a good bounce.

KEEPS MY ENERGETIC 1 YR OLD LAB BUSY
    Size: Large
Anyone that has a field Lab knows you have to keep them busy which is difficult with the snow that won’t melt and the unusual -15 degree windchills we are having in NYC. Like others I’ve wasted so much money on various toys and puzzles trying to keep her busy and mentally stimulated. She either destroys them in minutes or won’t touch them. However, these with treats inside are fantastic. She loves the chicken flavor treats that go inside the ball. The treats for the holder are pricey but worth it so it keeps her busy for a while and she doesn’t get super hyper with cabin fever. Once I can get her back outside for longer periods to play and run off her excess energy I probably won’t be buying them on a regular basis given the price and that they only last a couple of hours given her strong jaws….Probably only for a special treat. However, for now they are worth every penny. The only con is they are difficult to get into the holder which is good so she can’t remove it.

    We love em!
    Size: Medium, Size: Medium
My dog loves these! I get a size smaller so it’s harder for him to eat. He’s 70lbs I get him the medium and it will last him 4 ish days. I also fuill the back with dog safe peanut butter, broken treats, and his food. This keeps him happy while I’m at work :) for reference he’s a gsd, and Australian shepherd mix. He never lets it get too far away, and proudly carries it along even when empty. He had one for over a year that just now started to break. They are very strong, great for chewers, and worth their weight in gold! When empty they also make them have the funniest faces🤣 again my dog had the first one for over a year before it started to rip. They are hardy.
