Enjoy the Taste of Brown Sugar, Grown in Your Own Yard!

There's nothing quite like the uniquely sweet, malty flavor of a homegrown Chiku. Our Red Chiku (Sapota) plant makes it easy to cultivate this delicious tropical fruit. The taste is incredibly rich and sweet, far better than anything you can find in a store, with a delightful hint of caramel or brown sugar in every bite.

Why Our Plant is Special:

Get Fruit Much Faster: This plant is grafted, a special technique that joins a strong root system to a branch from a mature, high-quality tree. This means you’ll get to enjoy fruit in just 2-3 years, much faster than a regular plant.

Guaranteed Delicious Taste: Because it's a grafted plant, you are guaranteed to get the exceptionally sweet, reddish-brown fruit that this specific variety is known for. No more guessing games!

A Strong and Easy-to-Grow Tree: This method creates a robust and hardy tree that grows well in the Indian climate. It’s an evergreen tree that will provide beauty and shade for years to come.

What the Fruit is Like:

Taste: Incredibly sweet with a unique malty flavor that is often compared to brown sugar, pear, and caramel all in one. The flesh is soft, smooth, and has a beautiful reddish-brown color.

Look: The fruit is round to oval-shaped with a fuzzy, brown skin. The real treasure is the rich, sweet pulp inside.

How to Eat: Perfect for eating fresh! Just slice it open and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. It's also fantastic for making delicious milkshakes, smoothies, and desserts.

Plant Details at a Glance:

Light: Requires lots of direct sun (at least 6 hours a day) to produce the best fruit.

Soil: Grows best in rich soil that drains well.

Water: Water regularly, especially when the plant is young. Allow the top layer of soil to feel dry before watering again.

Fruiting Time: This grafted plant can start producing fruit in just 2-3 years.

Size: Can grow up to 20-30 feet tall over many years, but can be kept to a more manageable size with regular pruning.

Where to Grow: Ideal for sunny backyards and gardens. It can also be grown in a large pot on a terrace for several years.

What You Get:

One (1) healthy, grafted Red Chiku plant.

The plant will be about [1.5 to 2 feet] tall.

It comes in a polybag or basic nursery pot, ready for planting.

Simple care instructions to help you get started.

(Note: Since this is a live plant, its size and shape may vary slightly. We promise it will arrive healthy and ready to thrive!)

How to Plant Your Chiku Tree:

It’s easy! Here’s how to get started:

1. Pick a Sunny Spot: Choose the sunniest location you have. Chiku trees love the sun.

2. Plant It: Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the nursery pot. Carefully place the plant in the hole, making sure the graft point stays above the soil level. Fill the hole back in with soil.

3. Water and Feed: Give it a generous watering after planting. Keep the soil moist during its first year. You can feed it with a balanced fertilizer a few times a year to help it grow strong.

ws merwin's collected poems
Format: Hardcover
it's a hardback and it's in great condition. apparently it's a library book that has been in more than one sale, at one point someone had put a price of fifty cents on it. it's sad that arguably one of the better modern writers did not find a permanent home but that meant a great deal for me. also, i hope the reason the book started its journey wasn't because the library folded but that might explain why the book left the shelves to begin with.

Better than Expected
Format: Paperback
Though the title impied there were new poems in this volume, I found some of my favorites, but didn't notice any new ones. Never mind, they are wonderful, and I liked this book so much, I purchased a copy for a friend and published poet, who's poet in the schools, Grace Grafton, who is familiar with Merwin's writing. That made both of us happy. On a practical level, it is easier to schlep a single volume with you than three of four, when what you want is 'La crême de la crême.' Makes a welcome addition to any collection, a great gift to introduce Merwin, and a pleasure to read the smooth, ariculate poetry that is food for the soul. Antoinette Constable
