The Chicago Hardy Fig is renowned for its remarkable cold tolerance, sweet fruit, and vigorous growth. Perfect for gardeners seeking a reliable fig tree, this variety is adaptable, hardy, and capable of producing abundant, delicious fruit even in cooler climates. Its robust nature and compact size make it an excellent choice for both in-ground planting and container gardening.

Key Features

  • Cold Tolerance: Withstands winter temperatures as low as -10°F when properly mulched, making it one of the hardiest fig varieties.
  • Delicious Fruit: Produces medium-sized, dark purple figs with a sweet, rich flavor and a reddish-pink interior. Excellent for fresh eating, drying, or preserving.
  • Extended Harvest: Yields fruit starting in mid to late summer and continuing into early fall.
  • Compact Growth: A manageable size that fits well in smaller yards or containers.
  • Ornamental Value: Beautifully lobed green leaves and a naturally attractive form make this fig as decorative as it is productive.

Mature Size

  • Height: 10–15 feet (can be pruned to a smaller size)
  • Spread: 9–12 feet

USDA Hardiness Zones

  • Zones 5–10 (with winter protection in Zones 5–6).

Care Instructions

  • Soil Requirements: Thrives in well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0–7.5.
  • Sunlight: Requires full sun (6–8 hours daily) for optimal growth and fruiting.
  • Watering: Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
  • Fertilization: Feed with a balanced fertilizer in early spring and midsummer to promote healthy growth and fruit production.
  • Pruning: Prune in late winter to remove dead or weak branches and to shape the tree.
  • Winter Protection: In colder zones, apply heavy mulch around the base and consider wrapping the tree or using a frost blanket. For extreme cold, move container-grown figs indoors or to a sheltered area.
  • Pest & Disease Management: Generally pest-resistant but monitor for common fig issues like aphids or scale. Ensure good airflow to reduce the risk of fungal diseases.

Why Choose Chicago Hardy Fig?

The Chicago Hardy Fig combines resilience, adaptability, and productivity, making it a favorite among gardeners in a wide range of climates. Its ability to bounce back even after harsh winters and its capacity to produce sweet, flavorful fruit make it a must-have for anyone looking to grow their own figs. This hardy variety will reward you with bountiful harvests and enduring beauty year after year.

Great quality wire for any automotive or 12 volt wiring
Size: 16 AWG-100 ft
This GS Power 16 gauge wire is excellent quality for any automotive wiring project. The copper is true OFC pure copper, not copper clad aluminum. It’s flexible, easy to route, and holds up well without the insulation feeling cheap or brittle. I have used it for automotive accessory wiring and some 12V equipment projects and it handled everything perfectly. The wire pulls cleanly, solders well, and the insulation thickness gives it a durable feel without being overly bulky. If you need dependable wire for automotive, marine, RV, audio, or general electrical projects, this is a great buy. I would absolutely purchase it again.

Not the sorry copper coated aluminum.
Size: 16 AWG-100 ft
The wire is 16 gauge plenty big for my system. Heck, the wires supplied with my stereo, copomonet speakers, and amplifiers are about 20 or 24 gauge. I'm quite sure the wire will be more than suffeceint. I, m installing a mono sub amplifier a four-way amplifier to the sub amp outputs and the front of lines of the stereo. I'm gonna be pushing 20 speakers all except the sub woofer only pushing 100 watts a channel and the sub will push 150 watts. That makes 21 altogether. Not much just good clean sound. I've been working on the project going on 5 years now. Been bargain hunting, besides the work I've only got about $650 in the project. Can't wait to get it completed here around the end of July. Hopefully, it will sound great didn't want to pay anyone. Seen too many "professional" jobs that were subpar. I've seen some nightmares. Figured if l did the job then who could I blame at least I can only blame myself and didn't pay $1,000 for it. 😁🤔
