Gaillardia, commonly known as Blanket Flower, is a striking perennial plant that produces vibrant blooms in shades of red, yellow, and orange. The large, daisy-like flowers are not only eye-catching but also attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Known for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in poor soils, Gaillardia is perfect for pollinator gardens, wildflower meadows, and border plantings. This low-maintenance plant blooms profusely from early summer to fall, providing long-lasting color and beauty. Seeds are heirloom, Non-GMO, and open-pollinated, ideal for home gardeners looking to add both beauty and function to their landscapes.

How to Germinate and Grow Gaillardia (Blanket Flower)
Germination Instructions
Preparation:

Choose a seed tray or small pots with good drainage. Fill them with a seed-starting mix, which is light and well-draining.
Sowing Seeds:

Sow the Gaillardia seeds on the surface of the soil. Lightly press them into the soil, but do not cover them, as they need light to germinate.
Watering:

Water gently to moisten the soil without washing the seeds away. Use a spray bottle for even distribution. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Light and Temperature:

Place the seed trays in a location with bright, indirect light. The ideal temperature for germination is between 70-75°F (21-24°C).
Germination Time:

Gaillardia seeds typically germinate in 14-21 days. Maintain consistent moisture and light conditions.
Growing Instructions
Transplanting:

Once the seedlings have at least two sets of true leaves and are strong enough to handle, transplant them to their final location. Harden off the seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week.
Site Selection:

Choose a location with full sun. Gaillardia prefers well-draining soil and can tolerate poor soils. Prepare the planting area by loosening the soil and adding compost if necessary, but they are adaptable to less fertile conditions.
Planting:

Plant the seedlings 12-18 inches apart to allow adequate air circulation and growth. Dig a hole large enough for the root ball and plant at the same depth as they were in the seed tray.
Watering:

Water regularly to establish the plants, but once established, Gaillardia is drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.
Feeding:

Gaillardia does not require much fertilization. A light application of a balanced fertilizer in the spring can help, but too much fertilizer can lead to excessive foliage growth with fewer blooms.
Mulching:

Apply a thin layer of mulch around the base of the plants to retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds.
Care and Maintenance:

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming and prevent self-seeding. Cut back the plants in late fall to about 6 inches to maintain shape and vigor.
Overwintering:

Gaillardia is a perennial in many regions. In colder climates, apply a layer of mulch or straw to protect the plants during the winter months.

Great for oily acne-prone skin
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I have oily, acne-prone skin, and this sunscreen has worked really well for me. It doesn’t feel overly greasy or too dry, and it sits nicely on my skin without making my face feel heavy. I’ve been using it for a long time, and honestly, it’s the only sunscreen I keep going back to because it works so well with my skin. It feels comfortable for daily use and gives good protection without causing extra breakouts for me.

Great for oily skin!
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Definitely leaves white cast, I’m pretty fair skinned, makes me look like a ghost. Just rub it in your hands first, breaks into the mineral so minimize the white cast look. It feels lightweight and as someone with pretty oily skin it does a pretty good job!

Great for Oily, Rash-Prone Skin, But Be Wary of the Residue
Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This sunscreen is a really solid option if you have sensitive, rash-prone, and oily skin like mine. I’ve found it’s one of the few sunscreens that doesn't cause any irritation, which is a huge benefit for me. On top of that, it leaves a truly matte finish, so I don't feel greasy or shiny throughout the day. The only reason I can't give it five stars is that it leaves behind small, dried white bits on my face. They can be a bit annoying and make the application look a little messy. Overall, it's a good sunscreen that works well with my skin type, but the white residue is a definite drawback.

This stuff is magic!
Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I farm and garden. I spend hours outdoors in the summer, and for years, I’ve hated wearing sunscreen because it made my face feel hot and sticky. This sunscreen is none of that. I received a small sample tube of it from the dermatologist and instantly fell in love with it. It goes on smooth and covers well. But the thing I love about it is that I don’t feel like I’m wearing sunscreen once it absorbs into my skin. I forget about it! It doesn’t combine with my sweat and run into my eyes, making them sting. It doesn’t irritate sensitive skin or clog my pores. This stuff is magic and I will be using it daily. It’s not the least expensive sunscreen out there, but it’s worth it!
