Monstera 'Esqueleto'

Monstera 'Esqueleto' is a robust climbing Monstera with large green leaves and numerous oval to irregular perforations across the blade. Mature foliage can look open and skeletal because the holes are often abundant, with smaller openings near the midrib and larger openings toward the outer blade.

Rooted stems can climb on a stable pole, plank, or panel, where aerial roots hold the vine upright and larger leaves stay spaced around the support.

Large perforated leaves on Monstera 'Esqueleto'

  • Leaf pattern: Mature blades carry many open holes across a broad green surface.
  • Vine strength: Stems become heavier as leaves increase in size.
  • Aerial roots: Root attachment anchors the stem and allows leaves to size up along the support.
  • Indoor display: A tall support keeps the large leaves visible and well spaced.

How Monstera 'Esqueleto' sizes up

Monstera 'Esqueleto' has broad adult leaves, a thickening vine, and a mature hole pattern built from many oval to irregular perforations. Larger perforated foliage appears on well-rooted, attached stems with thicker petioles and broader blades.

The mature leaves can become much larger than the juvenile foliage. Petioles, stem thickness, root attachment, and support all influence how quickly the plant moves from smaller leaves into its larger, highly perforated adult growth.

Care for a large fenestrated Monstera vine

  • Support: Give the main stem a tall, textured support so aerial roots can attach as the plant climbs.
  • Light: Provide bright filtered light so new petioles stay shorter and broad leaves are less exposed to harsh direct sun.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps large new leaves open without tearing or sticking.
  • Watering: Water when the upper substrate has partly dried, then drain the pot fully.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky aroid mix that combines moisture retention with open air spaces around the roots.
  • Temperature: Maintain warm indoor conditions, ideally 18–28 °C, with no cold drafts across wet roots.
  • Repotting: Move to a heavier, drainage-open pot once thick roots circle the mix, keeping the pole and stem stable during the lift.
  • Feeding: Give modest feed while petioles and new blades are sizing up, then hold back after repotting or during cool slow periods.

Small leaves, tearing and root stress

  • Leaves stay small: Check the support, light level, and root health; mature leaf size depends on all three.
  • Torn new leaves: Stabilise humidity and avoid moving or rubbing the leaf while it is still unfolding.
  • Yellowing after watering: Inspect the lower substrate for poor drainage or compacted material.
  • Pest marks: Look along the petioles, leaf backs, and new growth for thrips, mites, scale, or mealybugs.

Calcium oxalate safety

Monstera 'Esqueleto' is toxic if chewed. The leaves and stems contain calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, throat, and digestive tract of pets and people.

Why this Monstera is called 'Esqueleto'

The name 'Esqueleto' means “skeleton” in Spanish and refers to the open pattern of the mature leaves. Monstera is an Araceae genus native to tropical America, with many species developing different juvenile and adult leaf forms as they climb.

On a warm, well-rooted stem, Monstera 'Esqueleto' can produce broad leaves with large open perforations.

Great for chewing and fetching
Size: Small (9 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone, Size: Small (9 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone
My puppy was chewing everything and this satisfied her urge to chew. As a bonus she also loves playing fetch with it. The rope is about 8 inches long overall, but only about 3 inches from the insides of one knot to the inside of the other knot. This is great for a puppy or small dog. My puppy loves to chew on this rope, especially at the knots. When we first got this rope we could play tug of war with it, but as she has grown, we eventually needed a longer rope for safety playing tug of war so my hands don’t get too close to her mouth. We have had this one for about 3 months and it is holding up really well. It has survived the washing machine nicely. My puppy is a chihuahua mix and is currently 7 months old and about 10 pounds. She is probably an average chewer. Definitely not a dog that destroys a toy in a day.

My dog loves this rope toy! I thought it would feel cheap and unravel easy, but it actually seems quite durable and my puppy seems to like the way it feels as well.

Close...but not quite the length.
Size: XL (16 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone, Size: XL (16 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone
I will admit, I thought their picture was off, because when I saw 16" in the title I was expecting the distance between the knots to be 16 inches in length. So if you're looking for a good length tug-of-war rope for a medium to large dog, look somewhere else. I'm not returning it, it's good quality cotton rope asides that. My dog needs a new toy and cotton ones are harder to find. Next time I'm going to their amazon store directly to look for what I wanted though. I will buy from them again, I like the quality and the fact that, for once, cotton is actually cotton.

Great toy
Size: Small (9 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone
I got this because my puppy chews through the other kinds of rope toys. This one is laying though. Only thing is, she's eating off the loose strings. Lol So she's pooping strings all the time

The strings on the end are super engaging and the rope itself holds up really well
Size: Small (9 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone
Super cost effective way to redirect chewing!! Our 4 month old corgi quickly made this is favorite toy. He loves the strings on the side and tugs on it endlessly, and the main rope was pretty firm at first but has softened up while maintaining its strength. Highly recommend as an interactive toy or just something for your dog to chew on their own so you can take some time to chill on your own!
