Philodendron hederaceum ‘Brasil’ (also known as Philodendron scandens ‘Brasil’) is a vibrant and easy-to-grow tropical vine from the Araceae family, native to Central and South America. It’s a variegated form of the classic Heartleaf Philodendron, celebrated for its lime-green and golden-yellow streaked foliage that adds instant colour and warmth to any space.

Each heart-shaped leaf features a unique pattern — some with bold, golden splashes down the centre, others with soft marbling and contrasting green borders. The variegation resembles painterly brushstrokes, giving the plant a lively, tropical look. Its trailing or climbing habit makes it perfect for hanging baskets, shelves, or trained up moss poles and trellises.

Tough, adaptable, and fast-growing, Philodendron ‘Brasil’ thrives in a wide range of indoor conditions, making it an excellent choice for beginners and experienced collectors alike.

Philodendron hederaceum ‘Brasil’ – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light, which enhances its golden variegation. It tolerates moderate light but may lose colour in very low light. Avoid strong, direct sunlight that can scorch the delicate variegation.

Watering

Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy. Reduce watering slightly in winter when growth slows. It’s better to underwater than overwater this species.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Prefers 18–28°C. Protect from draughts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.

  • Humidity: Tolerates average indoor humidity but will thrive in slightly higher levels (50–70%). Mist occasionally or place near other plants for optimal growth.

Soil and Potting

Use a free-draining, chunky aroid mix – peat-free compost combined with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir is ideal. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the soil and encourage healthy root growth.

Feeding

Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser to support vibrant foliage and steady growth. Pause feeding in winter.

Pruning and Maintenance

Trim vines regularly to encourage bushier growth and remove any yellowing or faded leaves. Easy to propagate — stem cuttings root readily in water or soil.

Growth and Maturity

A fast-growing trailing or climbing vine, reaching 1–2 metres indoors. Leaves typically range from 5–10 cm long but may grow larger on climbing plants.

Common Issues

  • Loss of variegation: Insufficient light.

  • Yellow leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Leggy growth: Lack of light or pruning.

  • Pests: Occasionally spider mites or mealybugs.

Background and Benefits

The Philodendron ‘Brasil’ is named for its leaf pattern, which resembles the green and yellow of the Brazilian flag. It’s one of the most cheerful and forgiving houseplants, bringing tropical vibrancy to interiors while requiring minimal attention. Like all Philodendrons, it also helps purify the air, making it both decorative and functional.

I’ve been using Nature's Way Organic MCT Oil (16 Fl Oz) for several months, and it has truly exceeded my expectations. The oil is sourced from organic coconuts and contains both C8 Caprylic Acid and C10 Capric Acid, which are known for their benefits in supporting energy and mental clarity. I love that it is both Keto and Paleo certified, making it a perfect addition to my diet. The neutral taste and smooth texture make it easy to add to coffee, smoothies, or salad dressings without altering the flavor. It blends well and never leaves an oily residue. Whether I’m starting my morning with a bulletproof coffee or adding a boost to my shakes, Nature’s Way MCT Oil fits seamlessly into my routine. The fact that this MCT oil is USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified gives me peace of mind about its purity and quality. I feel confident that I’m fueling my body with a clean product free from unwanted additives or chemicals. Since incorporating this oil, I’ve noticed an increase in my sustained energy levels and improved focus throughout the day. It helps me feel full longer, which is great for intermittent fasting and maintaining my Keto lifestyle. I also appreciate that it supports both brain and body health as advertised. Readable, concise, and clear

I am a fan of the late Dr. Heiser. He was a consummate scholar who was not afraid to challenge the status quo or tradition in cases where he felt Scripture was being mishandled or interpreted out of context. This book, the second of a two volume commentary series on the book of Enoch, was written to provide a readable commentary text to help the average person to understand this fascinating second temple period composition. I believe he succeeded admirably in navigating and explaining this work drawing heavily on the best scholarly interpretive sources.
