Our handcrafted moss poles are not only attractive to the eye, they’re also very functional!

In addition to being self-watering, extendable and compatible with virtually all types of growing media, they also feature a small base to prevent the moss pole from leaning over. The base also has holes that you can attach wire to; the wire can then be threaded through one or more holes in your pot to add even more stability. We find this is rarely necessary, but the option is there in case you ever need it.

The base is sealed with a special food-grade sealant to prevent it from leaking, but unlike cement or glue, the base can still be removed by hand if needed (though you’ll probably never need to).

We also use a unique thin-walled pipe that is 1” in diameter, which creates a larger reservoir to hold more water so you don’t have to refill it as often.

We use multiple wicks that are made of a special capillary material that allows the pole to wick up water quickly and efficiently and over longer distances, which is particularly important as you extend your pole using our optional moss pole extensions.

Also included is a roll of 1/2" wide double-sided Plant Velcro, which can be cut into multiple lengths and used to attach your plant to the moss pole. Once the roots are established you can remove the strips and reuse them.

All moss poles and extensions have an overall outside diameter of approximately 2½”. Here’s a quick sizing guide:

Overall length / Moss length / Bare pipe (to bury in soil)
12” / 8” / 4”
24” / 18” / 6”
36” / 28” / 8”
48” / 36” / 12”

If you would like to alter any of these dimensions or have a custom request please message us and we’ll do our absolute best to accommodate you.

Tips for extending the life of your moss pole:

  • You can use tap water in a pinch but we highly recommend using reverse osmosis or distilled water, which are both available at any grocery store, to prevent mineral buildup in the moss. Excess minerals are not only bad for the moss, they’re also very bad for the roots that have entered the moss. This applies to all moss poles, not just ours.
  • It’s okay to let the moss dry out occasionally (it’s actually very beneficial), just don’t let it dry out completely or the roots may suffer.
  • You may sterilize the water reservoir occasionally if needed/desired, but we recommend using a small amount of hydrogen peroxide instead of bleach, as bleach will leave a residue.

Sturdy and long lasting.
These balls are a favorite of my Sheltie! She loves to chase after them and catch them in the air. My dog is not a chewer so I can't say how they hold up under aggressive circumstances! They do last a long time .

Very versatile and durable dog toy
This is not a good toy to leave wit big dogs unattended. That being said it is a GREAT dog toy for households that have a variety size of dogs. Our Golden Retriever and 6 pound Pomeranian both play with it. Both retrieve it and occasionally share carrying it back to us. I know it will eventually get destroyed but that is what dog toys are for. Very durable and with the holes, it allows small dogs to pick it up as easily as larger dogs.

Keeps my dog busy
This works great for rolling treats up in fleece and putting them in the ball. The ball material is flexible and durable. This is a fun and engaging activity for when the weather prevents outside fun.

The best dog ball EVER!!!
Our 3 y.o. Mini Australian shepherd destroys every toy that she can. We can’t have any kind of cloth toys, including the heavy duty, triple stitched, fire hose Kong toys. We can’t have rope toys, even the balls. There are many rubber or silicone toys we also can’t have as she destroys them as well. She has 5 of these balls, some for over a year and they are still in GREAT shape. Left in the sun, rain, etc, they just hold up. They also don’t have a lot of surface area to hold slobber so your hand doesn’t get all wet. Heavy enough to still throw a fair distance, but light enough that the dog was fine the few times I’ve accidentally drilled her in the ass. These are the best.
