Introducing the spectacular baileyi Air Plant, also known as Tillandsia baileyi, a true showstopper that will bring an explosion of color and whimsy to any space! This incredible onion-shaped bulb is similar to the bulbosa belize and caput medusae, opens in a new tab and serves as a cozy home for rainforest ants in the wild.
This extraordinary Tillandsia air plant is truly a sight to behold, with its stiff silvery greenish/purple tubular leaves that twist and curve from its bulbous base. Its leaves are covered in fine trichome scales, which open to absorb moisture and nutrients from the air and close to retaining them. When it bursts into life, a long lavender inflorescence emerges, adorned with an array of stunning purple flowers that will leave you breathless.
In USDA zones 9 to 11, it can grow outdoors all year round and grow up to 5 inches tall and 8 inches wide. To keep your baileyi air plant happy and healthy, place it in a location basking in bright indirect sunlight – it loves soaking up those rays!
To keep things interesting and ensure water doesn't get trapped in its precious bulb sanctuary, try hanging or even placing it upside down—talk about being unconventional! Remember to hydrate this stunner at least once a week but don't forget the shake-off ritual. Just make sure it dries completely before returning it back to its terrarium or holder. In order to promote growth and the development of pups, you can fertilize your baileyi air plant once a year in the spring.
So, go ahead and embrace the fun-loving spirit of the Tillandsia baileyi in your home or garden.
