Clovers, Alfalfa & Chicory Food Plot Mix

Perennial Nutrition Built for Serious Wildlife Managers

Hale Habitat & Seed’s Clovers, Alfalfa & Chicory Mix is a premium perennial blend designed to establish long-lasting, high-protein forage that attracts and sustains deer and other wildlife from early spring through late fall.

This carefully balanced mix combines nutrient-dense clovers, protein-rich alfalfa, and deep-rooted chicory to create a resilient food source that thrives under grazing pressure and varying weather conditions. Whether you’re frost seeding, renovating an existing plot, or establishing a new perennial stand, this blend is built to perform.

With proper soil prep and management, this mix provides multiple years of high-quality forage while improving soil health through nitrogen fixation and deep root structure.

Grow healthier deer. Build better habitat. Plant with confidence.

Benefits for Wildlife

  • High-protein perennial forage supports antler growth, lactation, and body weight
  • Multi-species blend increases palatability and grazing durability
  • Chicory’s deep taproot provides drought tolerance and extended seasonal availability
  • Clovers fix nitrogen, improving soil health naturally
  • Attracts deer, turkey, and other wildlife throughout the growing season
  • Withstands moderate grazing pressure when properly managed

Planting Guidelines

  • Seeding Rate: 6–8 lbs per acre
  • Planting Depth: ¼ inch or less (do not bury seed too deep)
  • Best Planting Windows:
    • Frost seeding (late winter/early spring)
    • Spring planting after soil temps reach ~50°F
    • Late summer/early fall (allow 6–8 weeks before first frost)
  • Site Prep:
    • Soil test recommended
    • Remove existing vegetation
    • Firm, clean seedbed preferred
  • Sunlight:
    • Full sun recommended for best performance
    • Can perform well with some shade

Fertilization Guidelines

  • Conduct a soil test prior to planting
  • Adjust pH to 6.0–7.0 (lime if needed)
  • Apply phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) according to soil test results
  • Avoid high nitrogen applications — legumes fix their own nitrogen
  • Top-dress with 0-20-20 or similar blend annually to maintain productivity

Herbicide Guidelines

  • Eliminate existing weeds before planting
  • Use glyphosate for pre-plant burndown (follow label directions)
  • Grass-selective herbicides may be used post-emergence if needed
  • Avoid broadleaf herbicides that may damage clover, alfalfa, or chicory
  • Mowing can help suppress weeds during establishment

Great lip balm
I have had chapped lips for most of my adult life. This product has been the first product that I have used, where my lips are not cracked, peeling or dry. There is no smell or taste, very neutral. I had to use the balm frequently in the beginning, now maybe only several times a day. One tube last a long time I highly recommend this lip balm.

Just ok
These are just simply too large to use as chapstick unless you do both top and bottom at the same time ( no thank you). I threw them away. 3 stars because it appears to be a good product, but they got the packaging all wrong to call it chap stick.

Replaced Vaseline - Far superior product
I received this as a gift a few months ago and it's all I use now. I use it on my lips and on my neck wrinkles. Do not leave it in a warm environment, like hot car or pants pockets, it will get very soft. If it does get soft, i just dab it on ranther than rolling/wiping on. Also its best to roll it down when not in use, but not necessary. I used to be addicted to Vaseline products for my lips and this is far superior in many ways.

Not really good as a lip balm
It is way too melty or liquidy when applying. It's like putting oil on your lips. No staying power. I actually ended using it more as a skin moisturizer like a lotion. It's pretty good for that. I haven't even tried taking it with me in my pocket as I think it'll turn to a liquid like coconut oil down here in sunny hot Florida. .
